An Open Relationship.
Sometimes I just sit and wonder how the world might have looked if everyone could read each other's minds. A world where if you get to see someone you can just tell what the person has in mind and it will be nothing but true. Such a world would have been so nice because there wouldn't be anything like lies or secrets. Just life.
I remember a show I watched sometime that was about a couple in a hot seat with lie detectors on them. At this point, the detector would read the mind of each of them and then checkmark it if they are telling the truth or a lie.
I am sure a lot of secrets will leak out. That very moment someone you might have spent your entire life with thinking you know much about them might end up being a different person. You can only predict who they are, you don't know what they have in mind.
I am sure that a lot of homes would be damaged due to that secret revealing session they had. Even if some homes would have come to settle after the secret being revealed then it will never be like before. The reason why we can live happily with each other even among friends, siblings, and couples, is that we don’t know what each other has in mind except when they prove it in action.
Yoruba says “Inu Eda Jin ko je ji a mo inu asebi” which the translation goes thus, “Humans have a deep heart that we can’t tell who is the bad one”
If I am to realize that my partner has been able to read my mind all these while, then I think that's a bonus for her. Though I am yet to have one so I can't tell how it feels, I have seen people in such relationships. Even there are times when people say otherwise about their partner behind their back and say something different in their presence.
That’s human for us, so if my partner could read my mind then it's a good thing for her because I don't have any plans to be dishonest or disloyal to her. Even to those who I am close to, I also have the same heart and see myself in their shoes. I ask myself different questions about myself in such a condition how am I going to feel?
If it could be a superpower or magic, I don't want to have the ability to read my partner's mind. But I just want to believe and trust her for who she is. However, if it happens that way it doesn’t truly mean humans won’t find a way about it and conceal whatever it is they want to conceal.
Not knowing what a friend has in mind is one of the interesting parts of life. So we just have to keep living on with the way life was made to be.
