For the length of time that I've been trying my hands on photography, one thing I've noticed is that candid photography is the most interesting. Like, you're capturing subjects without them knowing or posing, and this often result in natural, unguarded moments. You don't script it, you don't plan it – it just happens. Just one click and you're freezing a moment in time.
And you know, most times, such unplanned shots turn out to be the most striking. You go through your photos later, and you're like "Wow, did I capture that?" It's like discovering something magical!
This photo below is just a perfect example.

I captured the scene at Azikiwe by Georges' Street, on my walk some days ago. Actually, I was aiming for the roadside oil shop behind him, and had taken the first shot, as the above photo shows. But as I tried to take a second shot, things got interesting. I caught him mid-stride as he was stepping out of the oil shop, with a face that was just as serious as hell. Maybe his transaction at the oil shop didn't go through, or probably it was something else. But his face was giving out "angry vibe." Lol.
The intensity on his face tells a whole story – a mix of surprise, and a hint of annoyance. In fact, you'd think he was coming at me, probably because he suspected what I was up to. But, nah, he had no idea I was snapping away, and that's what makes the photo so raw - pure candid moment, and I love it. 😍
Even the shop owner, who was checking the POS in his hands was unaware that he was being captured. Just like the other guy, I wonder what his reaction would be upon finding out that I'd sneaked a photo of him. Hehehe.
That's a wrap. Have you captured candid photos before? How did you feel afterwards? I'd love to know.
See you in my next blog.
