Spiders. Not uncommon in Belgium. Not uncommon in my garden. Unfortunate for my kidsāespecially the boysāwho act like an eight-legged apocalypse has arrived every time they see one. But hey, someoneās gotta play the role of fearless protector. Guess thatās me. (Back in my day, we didnāt call Dad for a spiderāwe just moved out.)
Now, Iām not one to flinch at a spider. Normally, theyāre your standard garden-variety eight-legged freelancers keeping the bug population in check. But this time⦠this time I saw something different.
A white spider.
Like full Stormtrooper aesthetic. Tiny. Alien. And it was doing the unthinkable: devouring an insect easily three times its size. I swear this thing was the David Goggins of spidersāāYou think size matters? STAY HARD.ā
So obviously I did what any tech-loving, photography-obsessed dad would do. I grabbed my iPhone 11 Pro Max, slapped on the Moment macro lens like I was suiting up for battle, and got down to bug-level for a closer look. Because letās face itāwhen nature gives you a scene straight out of National Geographic, you donāt just watch, you document.
š The Shot
Zoom in. Focus. Boom.
There it was:
⢠The spiderās ghostly-white legs locked around its prey.
⢠A bee or a hoverfly (hard to tell through all the āoh crap Iām dinnerā energy).
⢠Lavender petals in the background, as if Mother Nature thought this moment needed some soft lighting and bokeh.
Suddenly this wasnāt just photography. It was a life lesson.

šø 3 Things This Spider Taught Me About Life (Yes, Really)
Size Doesnāt Mean Jack.
That insect was way bigger than our little white assassin. But did the spider hesitate? Nope. It locked in, committed, and executed. Moral: Stop crying about ānot having enough resourcesā or ābeing too small to compete.ā Just start. The spider didnāt even have a business plan.
Patience Pays.
This spider didnāt chase its prey down like a caffeinated Golden Retriever. It waited. Perfectly still. Strategic. And when the opportunity came, it struck. If youāre over here rushing your goals because Instagram told you ā10x in 30 days,ā maybe chill. Focus. Build quietly. Strike loud.
Adapt and Conquer.
The spider didnāt set up a classic web trap. Itās a crab spiderāan ambush predator. It blends in with flowers like some creepy albino ninja. When the usual tactics donāt work, evolve. Pivot. Do whatever it takes.

šø Tech Nerd Sidebar: The Gear
Shot on an iPhone 11 Pro Max with a Moment Macro Lens. And let me just sayāif youāre not already slapping Moment lenses on your phone, youāre missing out. The level of detail I pulled off? Bananas. You can practically count the pores on the spiderās butt. (Please donāt.)
āø»
š Meanwhile, in the Houseā¦
Of course, while Iām outside macro-shooting natureās brutal food chain, my kids are inside plotting full-on relocation plans because āthere might be spiders in the house too.ā
One of them even asked if we should āburn the lavender bushā to be safe.
(Spoiler: weāre not burning anything.)
āø»
š Final Thought
That little white spider isnāt out here complaining about the odds. Itās winning in silence, proving to every insect in the neighborhood that the quiet ones are the scariest.
Maybe next time youāre doubting yourself because the competition ālooks bigger,ā remember the spider. Get still. Get strategic. Then go full savage when the moment comes.
And for Godās sakeāgrab your macro lens. The worldās cooler up close.

Wow. Life lesson indeed. This is the first time I see a predator spider, and its butt looks like a flower center or an orchid flower bud. š³
It's sting (venom?) must be pretty deadly for a large opponent to yield to its tiny claws.
It was the first time for me as well to see this specific species, a white one. It looks pretty deadly indeed, and quite impressiveā¦

Fantastic shots, my friend! I love crab spiders! Sadly I've never seen them where I am, but I remember several species of them from when I lived on the mainland, and of all different colors, to blend in with the flowers where they sat in wait. It's so funny to me hearing about people being afraid of spiders...lol! šššāØš¤

Same thing! Iām not afraid of most of them, however, I do have some hesitance about the larger ones :-) And honestly, Iām not quite fond of tarantulaās and the like :-D
Yes, it was indeed a really nice and beautiful spider, this one. Hope to see it again sometime!

Great shots!!! Not sure what I like more... Your great shots, the (spider) life lessons, or the comments from your children to burn the lavender bush! š¤£
Btw. I agree with them... you should burn it down... just in case... It's a better solution than moving out of the house... š
