That One Photo. That One Moment. That One Damn Reminder.

You ever take one photo and, for the rest of your life, it whispers to you every time you scroll past it? Yeah. That’s this shot for me.

Here’s the raw, unsexy truth: This wasn’t some soul-searching, piña-colada-sipping, perfect hair kind of day. We weren’t even at the beach for the beach. No blissful barefoot strolls. No curated Instagram reels of me twirling under a sun hat. Hell no. We were just passing by. Because—like most of life—stuff happens. Family issues. Stress. A tight schedule. The beach was simply the scenery we were speeding past, not the destination.

But then I saw this. The golden hour doing its usual black magic. A ratty straw parasol catching the light just right. A car with more attitude than most influencers I know, parked like it owned the horizon.

So I stopped. Pulled out the tele lens. One click. That’s it.

Here’s where it gets trippy. That photo? It looks like a deserted beach on some faraway island where billionaires helicopter in for “digital detoxes.” You’d never guess it was actually snapped on a Belgian beach—yes, Belgium does beaches—and that just outside the frame were screaming kids, sunburned tourists, a sea of plastic cups, and the lingering bass of a summer pop-up bar trying to convince everyone it was Ibiza.

This is where photography flexes its ultimate superpower: It doesn’t always tell the truth. It tells your truth.

Your lens. Your angle. Your story.

That’s the thing no one tells you when you start taking pictures—or building businesses, or making art, or just trying to make sense of this spinning rock. Reality is chaotic. Crowded. Messy. But your job as a creator isn’t to copy/paste reality. Your job is to filter it through you. Through your perspective, your heartbreak, your humor, your hunger, your freaking dreams.

The camera didn’t lie. It just told my version of the truth. And that’s all any of us can ever do.

So what’s the takeaway?

👉 Stop waiting for perfect conditions. Take the damn shot—even if life is ugly around the edges. 👉 Your perspective matters. Train yourself to find beauty in the chaos. 👉 Most of what people see from the outside is just a carefully cropped, well-lit slice of your life. Don’t be fooled into thinking everyone else is living on a private island while you’re drowning in your inbox.

The real flex? Finding calm in the storm. Framing it. Owning it.

So yeah, it wasn’t a perfect day. But it gave me the perfect reminder:

You can’t control life. But you can control your lens.
