How People Change

I've learned from reading Chapter 3 of How People Change that each of us interprets life in a way that can impact our way of living. We instantly focused on what the passage refers to as "the human dream," seeking peace, improved quality of life, and personal accomplishments. And the tendency of it is to take up opportunity or make changes to the way we live when everything is challenging or even when we are privileged. We behave as though genuine happiness will come from outside factors.

The reading provides a connection between this and "the divine work," which highlights that God's ultimate goal is to change people's hearts and lifestyles, despite our yearning for better outcomes. Proverbs 19:21 reminds us that no matter how careful we are in devising our plans, it is the purpose of God that prevails. This helped me realize that He often uses difficult times to deepen my commitment to Him and help me bring myself closer to Christ. I was inspired by the "vertical confidence" theme. I am privileged for having trust simply because God is good, not only for the reason that my life is perfect, just as Paul trusted in God's grace for human beings. He will complete what He has started in me. A description of being a "fixer-upper" made this clear: God sees the beautiful life He is creating, but I typically only consider my flaws and challenges. Every challenge is an important turning point in the process.

This book teaches me to have a continuous understanding of life. God is a Master and Builder, and I can rely on His plans and requirements, according to Jeremiah 29. He values my dedication more than taking things from my life. I'm all in; I've learned that true transformation starts when I stop trying to change what I am experiencing and let Him purify my heart.
