Reading Response 3 :Why Biblical Counseling and Not Psychology?

What impressed me most after reading this article was the author's emphasis on the authority and power of God's Word in addressing the problems of the human heart. The author points out that the Bible is not merely a guide to faith, but also a truth capable of truly transforming one's inner life.

The passage, "The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul," reminds me that God's Word is perfect, in the sense that it is ideal or perfectly suited for man; the soul that has been warped and deformed by sin and serious problems can be reshaped by its power (page 59). This passage suggests that God's Word itself has the power to change hearts, rather than merely being religious advice or moral instruction. The author believes that when facing life's problems, what truly brings about fundamental change is God's Word, not just human wisdom or psychological theories.

This viewpoint has made me reflect deeply, reminding me that in the past, when facing life's pressures, emotional problems, or helping others, I seemed to rely too much on the opinions or ideas of others, neglecting God's Word. This issue made me realize that as someone who is studying and preparing to become an educator, I may face many students' emotional, behavioral, or life problems in the future. This article reminded me that when helping others, I should not rely solely on human methods or theories, but should place God's truth in a more prominent position.

Especially in my own life, I also need to change some of my ways of thinking. For example, in the past, when I encountered stress or difficulties, my first thought was often to seek the opinions of those around me or to look for external solutions, rather than first returning to God's Word for wisdom.

Therefore, I need to begin reading and meditating on the Bible more seriously and learning how to understand people's problems using biblical principles. In the future, when doing ministry or helping others, I also hope to offer advice more from a biblical perspective, rather than relying solely on general psychological or social viewpoints.
