The Grace-Sustained Life

In the discussion, the reporter asked a question that really caught my attention, and that question is, "If people just felt better about themselves, would the world become a better place?" If you would really understand the question, you would think critically about what is happening right now in the country. If all of us felt better about ourselves, would the world become a better place?

In our world today, confidence is a must. When we had problems, people would always tell us, "Believe in yourself," "You can do it," and other words that would boost our confidence. However, the Bible says that the greatest problem is not low confidence; it’s our sin. In modern psychology it was mentioned that there are no bad people; some of it says that raising self-esteem will fix behavior. However, McArthur argued that there is no solid proof that self-esteem produces righteousness, and high confidence does not remove guilt.

In the book of Romans, it was mentioned that none of us are righteous; we commit mistakes every day. And then Paul gives the verdict in Romans 3:19, which states:

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

In conclusion, I learned that it’s not about us; it’s about Him, a God who sustained grace to us. The world will say that we are good and believe in ourselves. Romans 3 says we are guilty; we fall short and cannot justify ourselves, but the gospel says that we are justified freely by His grace through Christ, and the solution to our sin is not self-esteem; it’s our faith in Jesus and the grace that sustains us throughout.
