It's been a while since I showed my face in the community, but I have been absent everywhere on Hive for many days of the week in the past months so please don't take it personally. I'm trying to get into a daily flow again, so far so good for some days.. I wanted to share my recent coffee endeavours with you..
And you are actually correct, I do love a good cup of coffee for sure! The thing with coffee is though that sometimes it gives me some health issues, like a few year ago when I had extreme migraines and weaned myself of coffee fully to then learn that detoxing from it gave me even more horrifying headaches (at the time) but I made it through and didn't drink it for a year (maybe longer, I forgot). My headaches vanished and at some point I started drinking it again when we moved back to Spain.
I admit that I loved our new coffee machine with cups a bit too much and sometimes drank too much coffee, combine that with not drinking enough water and you can notice some signals from your body that you should probably change some things. Usually I stop drinking coffee when another health issue pops up to not make things worse because I noticed that caffeine can make me feel worse when I have certain issues. Then as soon as this is over, I quickly fall back into that habit again, lol.
That is until there's a lack of coffee creamer which I'm very fond of drinking to make my perfect coffee. The right taste of coffee in a cup, combined with a bit of sugar and the perfect amount of coffee creamer from that certain brand (otherwise I will not enjoy it, trust me I tried them all) and then I really enjoy my cup in the morning. And then I forgot to refill our coffee creamer and it was sold out, oops.
I changed my coffee drinking habit to homemade iced coffee, I wrote about it at the time. This was great, but I got a bit tired of constantly having to prep it in time because it needed time to chill as well before I could consume it and then I went back to a regular hot cop but with frothed milk by our newly bought machine. To be fair, we changed to fresh milk to try this and I admit that it was 100x better than the milk that lasts longer (we always had this at home).
Although fresh milk isn't really that much cheaper than my expensive coffee creamer of choice if you like a creamy coffee, I was wondering if I could get used to this way of coffee drinking. I think it's a bit too much hassle as well and decided to just quit coffee for some days when it was 35 degrees Celsius and water was mostly desired anyway. Add to that some health problems for some days, making me avoid anything that could make me feel worse and I didn't drink any coffee for three days.
And when I had cravings for coffee again, I used the decaf from l'or espresso, the strongest version they have of decaf cups and noticed that they taste just as good as my regular coffee of choice. They can be a perfect replacement for all the coffee versions I've been drinking. This was surprising to be honest.
I haven't had any caffeine in two weeks now, and the days that I drink coffee, it's just one, with exceptional days where I make two coffee a day with the decaf cups. I'm surprised they taste this good.
While the coffee creamer was available again recently, I bought a bunch of these packages to learn days later that my boyfriend enjoys his coffee much more with the frothed fresh milk, lol. This means this creamer will now probably last for months instead of just one month when we both drank too much coffee. It's fine though, as I still love to drink one with creamer every few days..
I never thought that I could turn a decaf into a delicious coffee as well and really fulfil my cravings for coffee. In the end it's another step closer to cutting out some bad habits, I think the coffee intake is really one of these things that needed some attention.
For now, I'm convinced that the L'or cups (as they are strong in taste) are the best ones out there but I bet there is some cheaper brand out there selling decaf for strong coffee taste lovers like myself that is a bit more affordable. I'm ok buying these for now, as one package lasts more than a week so it's fine but hey, I prefer having options as well.
Today we brought home a box of decaf from Mercadona supermarket and I sadly noticed at home that they are not very strong (6 to be precise) so these will be returned unopened because 6 is not strong enough for me. If you happen to have any tips for strong decaf espresso cups, drop them in a comment please..
I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead, with or without caffeine :)
All pictures above are my own..
I think you need to do what you need to do to get that coffee fix, even if it's decaf, simply because the mind is so powerful.
I love that sign by the way, and it represents me well.
It's always great to see you pop by:)))
Yes, so true, I've learned many times that if I set my mind to it I can do it. But thanks to a few comments I went digging a bit about safe decaf and now wait for answers from the company to see if L'or is my best choice or that I should find another brand. I'm curious and will share it when I get a response.
The sign is cool, isn't it? I think it comes from Shein, I love it a lot. I also have a funny one with cats haha. "Are you attempting to use the bathroom, ALONE?" with two cat heads popping around the corner which is SO true, my cats either sleep in the sink and want to drink as soon as I enter the bathroom OR they immediately appear when I go there.
These signs are funny because I can relate..
Have a lovely weekend @millycf1976 <3
Hey there!
A virtual coffee shop, a warm community!
The Coffee Team
Thank you for the always warm welcome <3
What kind of decaf is it? There are two ways to take it out, methyl chloride is the cheap way or the Swiss water method if more expensive but probably healthier...
!PIMP
That's what I was told in the comments and I haven't been able to disclose it from the brand I drink. I like to believe that because they are expensive, it's the Swiss water method but that would be a bit foolish to just believe that based on the price, lol. Therefore I sent them an email to just ask. I hope it's the right kind because these are so good! Otherwise I will have to hunt for a similar or better brand (which has not worked out yet for regular coffee).
I checked the cheap decaf I bought (but will return anyway because of the low strength) which says made in Swiss but I don't know if that's just misleading people to think it's the Swiss water method so I will check on that as well.
So far, no answers about that yet, but I'm on it as I would like to find out before I end up drinking bad decaf causing other (maybe worse?) health issues in while..
!PIMP
It's hard to tell sometimes, if it's stated on the package you know it is. It costs more but the coffee tastes so much better!

While I don't trust decaf, I admit that does look like one tasty cuppa. I'm glad you found a way around the no-caffeine rule. :)
And I have the same problem with at-home iced coffee. If I had that kind of prep game, I'd be a different person:))
Funny that you mentioned that because of course it has also crossed my mind to at least dig into the decaf story at some point. By default I don't trust light stuff myself as I believe many of the things we've been taught to be better for us turn out to be worse. That doesn't mean I still wanted to get rid of caffeine but after a comment below where to start this digging about safe decaf (thanks @kunschj!) I sent the company of the cups I prefer an email, let's see.
I will write about it when I have some answers to share it with others..
Have a lovely weekend!
When our body cannot tolerate certain foods or drinks, we unfortunately have to stop. Fortunately, in your case, you found decaffeinated coffee, which allowed you to continue enjoying coffee.
Thanks for sharing your coffee experience with us.☕
Happy weekend.
One cup of coffee is good for you, two is better, and three is best...even decaf. It has health benefits that make it part of the prevention strategy for COVID-19/Flu/RSV.
Decaf coffee may present some health hazards though. Make sure the caffeine has been extracted through the "Swiss water" process. They may also be labeled "solvent-free" or "chemical-free." Avoid decaf prepared with solvents such as methylene chloride (paint stripper) or ethyl acetate (the stuff used in nail polish remover).
You can find safe brands here.
This is very helpful info because to be fair, it does not surprise me that decaf isn't always that great. I just figured I'd read into that later because for now this has been a great way to drink "coffee" while not having the caffeine that cause headaches from time to time. I'm much better in limiting my intake drinking decaf compared to the real deal, so I've learned.
I only drank decaf from L'or until now, and bought a box of other decaf which I'm going to return due to the strength I noticed at home but the box is in my hands now to check this brand so that I know. My boyfriend drinks another of their cups and usually gets stomach trouble from drinking more than one a day (which he does) so I'm keen on finding out if they are processed badly ..
Thanks for this great comment, I appreciate it! !PIMP
I can't really find the answer but the L'or cups seem to be safe, to be sure, I sent them an email to ask directly. Let's see.
The box from the supermarket that I will return says "Fabricado en Suiza" so I assume (but I will ask them as well to be sure) that it's indeed the Swiss water method but that could also be to mislead people as these boxes are cheap (just 3,50 euros for 20 cups compared to 4 euros for 10 cups of L'or)
I will write a post about it thanks for the inspiration and knowledge sharing !LUV
