Churros for breakfast!

churros and coffee for breakfast.png

My first time eating Churros

When I just moved to Spain the first time, I quite loved churros from the first moment I discovered them. We lived in this small town where the local bar on the corner of the municipality building would be filled with people every morning. Most of them had churros for breakfast. A lot of them dipping the churros in chocolate and other in their coffee.

I quickly learned that my favourite way was dipping them into my coffee. I also remember sitting there enjoying the weather and small talk we had with the waiter working there, as he spoked Dutch. He told us he lived in Holland for some time and it seems that he liked practicing his Dutch again when we went there.

It was no surprise that this little place was packed every morning and afternoon because it was one of the few with a nice view, I also remember the waterfall they created in the pond there. We used to walk there with the stroller and our (at the time) 4 month old baby to calm her down because she was easily overstimulated and therefore cried a lot. The sound of the water calmed the mind, so for us this place was a win. Happiness can be found in simple things!

My love for them faded

I have not eaten churros for years after leaving Spain and I didn't really crave them either. Not even when we flew back to Spain and saw them served many times before we went out for churros again. For my daughter it was a sort of first time because she never ate them as we did years ago. I let her try them with chocolate and she loved them, not surprisingly, lol.

I quickly learned that my love for them faded big time because I simply don't enjoy the greasy stuff that much anymore. For most part of my life, I'd go nuts for such snacks or things fried, but without having a fryer at home, not even missing it, I can safely say that I will get much happier from a healthy meal salad or tacos filled with veggies and chicken over fried churros.

A mommy daughter breakfast moment

My daughter specifically requested in the summer holidays to go out with me alone to have breakfast for example. I decided we'd jump in the car and head out for churros as I know it makes her happy. It's really just a few euros to spend to make the kid happy. We picked a not too hot day in the summer and a table inside because outside was all occupied and we preferred the luxury of air conditioning as I believe it was not the hottest morning but still a bit too hot to my liking.

We always order a portion each and chocolate for the lady:

While I order a coffee. Sadly this coffee is the perfect example of how I don't want my coffee. I ordered one in a glass as I always do because they have the perfect proportion coffee/milk, but she forgot. When I received it, I let it slide as it was mainly to dip the churros anyway.

And of course the churros! Although the breakfast is not too much to my own liking nowadays, at least we had a good mommy daughter moment out. After this, we went to the supermarket to get the groceries and back home to hide for the heat, lol.

Do you like churros?

Hi, how good those churros look 🤩, I hadn't thought of that combination, thanks for sharing that delight.

It's a matter of preference I guess :) I love chocolate but not the chocolate they serve with churros so this is a good alternative for me..

Those moments are unique and are part of your beautiful memories in a few years. Churros are delicious but I like them more as an afternoon snack. Greetings @thisismylife

Yes, I can see why. Often they only have them in the morning here though, this place was the first one where I saw them as an afternoon snack cut in smaller parts as well..

Thank you for stopping by. See you again soon:)

Always good to be around here :)

Added to your disenchantment with churros was the poor service at the cafe, it seems that you didn't enjoy the experience very much, At least the company was unbeatable, who better than with your daughter.

I have never tried a churro although I have seen them. I'd have to try one to see how it goes. Hehe.

I leave you a cup of delicious coffee.☕
Thanks for sharing.
Good day.

It's not as bad as you paint it here though lol. I just used to like them a lot and now I'm not a big fan. I don't dislike them or anything just not my preference for breakfast nowadays. Taste changes over the years :) And in my case that's a good thing lol.

Thanks for the coffee, that's something I DO appreciate in the morning <3

Hello there!
I've still not had the chance to try churros as yet, but this looks awesome and the cup of coffee is just how I like it:)

Oh I remember that you told me last time you still had to try it. They are of much better quality (overall) here than the little town where we lived but my taste has changed over the years so I'd not want to eat this for breakfast as much as I did 6 years ago or so lol. Every now and then is ok.

It's funny how everyone loves their coffee in their own way, but that's the great thing, as it would be a bit boring if we all loved the same stuff :)

Have a great day!

Now those just look yummy! Churros in Spain are a lot different that the ones here in the US. I think the ones here actually started at Disneyland and are fried and coated with cinnamon sugar. They taste great but are really bad for you!

Too bad she messed up your coffee. I like mine dark roast without cream or sugar, but alas now it's only green tea. Not quite the same but better for my heart... This getting old thing really does suck!

Yeah so I read, honestly, I would probably like them a lot more with cinnamon sugar, I LOVE cinnamon! But that comes with a price, so probably best I just dip these here in the coffee instead, haha.

I love dark roast but has to have sugar and coffee creamer, never been able to ditch both these things. Rather have no coffee than without those lol. I still have to try that green tea but honestly, I think I will not like it, never liked any tea in my life. But I drank water all my life over any soda. Never touched any soda, always flat water so there's that.

And yes, it does suck, I fully agree on that statement :)

Black coffee was a habit I picked up while in the Army, I love the flavors in the dark roast. Some of dark roasts I have had were from the Honduran mountains but expensive! Green tea just isn't the same, but I'm still making an effort to enjoy it. It's just not nearly as good.... sigh....

I do like mineral water though, ironically I picked that habit up when I was in Spain for about a month once upon time. I usually pass on soda too. These days it's more water for me too.

Churros from California are really good! Which is why rarely eat them or I would weigh a metric ton!

Hahahaha true.. they are not the healthiest food... but it is so nice that you shared it with your daughter for a girls breakfast :)

PS: That coffee is a cortado! definitely not what they should give you to deep the curros in :P

0.00044181 BEE

LOL I saw other Spaniards do it in that first place we lived in, otherwise I'd never done it myself probably. But I don't fancy that type of chocolate so it's a better option to dip in the coffee anyway hehe.

Every 6 months or so I will survive a Churro breakfast, more, I rather not lol.

0E-8 BEE

Oh yes yes, sorry I wasn't explaining myself right. 'Cortado' is what we call a tinny milk coffee, it would have been easier if they had served you what you asked, which is a larger version :P

I can't imagine many things better than sharing a giant churro with your kiddo. I have a 5 year old that would go moon eyed if she saw that haha! Bummer that they didn't get your coffee right, but at least it sounds like it was a fun time anyhow. ☕️

What a great moment of happiness and joy for your little one, where the churros are the best, here they are very well known and in many places it sells it, besides they do not cost so much. Great that they have been encouraged to try it and combine them with coffee, it's the best. You can tell they had a wonderful time and tasted something incredible with lots of chocolate.
