"Wake up, Rukkie!", my sister Omotola said as she gave me a light tap on the shoulder, trying to wake me up.
"Please let me sleep a little bit more", I replied, dragging the blanket closer to my body to get more sleep.
"You told me to wake you at exactly 7 am or you will be late for your appointment" she prodded further, shaking my legs in the process.
"Ooohhhh", I grumbled but I knew I had to stand up or I wouldn't get to where I wanted to go on time.
My sister knew I would blame her if I went late even if I was the one to be blamed.
I told her last night to wake me up or drag me out of bed if didn't't get up on time.
I got out of bed and went into the sitting room while stretching and yawning. I sat on the chair and rested my head on the arm of the chair. I was still feeling sleepy but I knew I couldn't risk going late to where I needed to go.
"Please help me boil some water, I need to make some coffee", I told my sister as I took the remote to the television and switched it on.
".... Beware!, we just got the information that a cartel has accidentally shipped out thousands of packages of drugs disguised as coffee bags. We urge all citizens to call the police if you come in contact with any of the coffee bags... "
"Humph, drugs in coffee bags? Yea right", I scoffed as I attempted to change the channel.
" The water is ready rukkie", my sister called to me. I walked into the kitchen and poured the water into my favorite coffee mug.
I proceeded to open the cupboard where I always store my coffee packs and brought out one of the new packs I just got.
I opened the packet and poured it into the cup. I stirred it and immediately noticed some white particles in it.
"Why is this coffee like this", I asked myself. I checked the packet to see if it had a mixture of milk but nothing was written on it just the name "Frosh Coffee". I brought the coffee cup closer to my nose and took a sniff.
Immediately I knew that was not coffee as the smell dulled my senses for some seconds. Then I remembered that the woman at the shop where I used to get my coffee told me she was out of the usual I always get and decided to get a new brand.
She told me to try it out if I liked it so she could add more of it to her stock as she knew I was one of her loyal customers and I was one of those who helped her know if she was to go for some new products or not.
Then I remembered the news I heard on the television some minutes ago.
" It couldn't be? Could it", I asked myself again. I quickly called on my sister and narrated the whole thing to her.
"If what you told me is true then we need to call the police", she said already shaking with fear.
She immediately brought my phone and we called the police and explained the situation to them. I gave them my address and they told me to expect them in some minutes.
After that, I called the store owner and explained to her as well. I further told her I would give the police the directions to her store so they would take away the rest before she sold more to others. She thanked me and told me she would be waiting for them.
The police arrived at my place 15 minutes after and they took away the one I had prepared and the remaining packs. I also gave them the address to the store where I got it and told them the owner was expecting them. They thanked me and left.
I sat down on the chair and thought of the crazy morning I had just had. I was glad I followed my instincts and didn't drink the coffee because who knows what must have happened to me.
Thanks for coming around.
