When technology turns against you

(edited)

What's the worst network issue you've ever faced? Oh Lord, Iā€™ve had tons of network issues.

Itā€™s crazy how my network begins to flop every single time I am in the middle of something important, it just sort of seems like someone usually sends a signal to the network providers to screw my network whenever I need it for something important and this sucks for real!

One thing about having network issues is that half the time you are helpless and do not have any control of the network, you just have to sit still and pray for a miracle to happen and sometimes this miracle might take forever to happen.

I have had terrible network issues as I stated earlier but the worst of them all was when I almost lost a big gig because of my network and that day I almost lost my mind.

Iā€™ll share this little story with you all.

I made a trip to another city for a summit, and after the summit, I had to go back to my city the following day for work and this was a major deal for me.

After the traffic and Uber drivers canceling my rides, I finally made my way to the bus station to board a vehicle to my city. From my calculations, I was supposed to be back in my city in record time for the job or so I thought.

I got to the ticket booth to get my ticket but Lo and behold there was no signal on my phone for me to make payment. Since I wasnā€™t with my card I needed to make a transfer to the transport company but there was no signal on my phone. If the network was slow or shitty I would have still been able to use USSD to make the transfer instead of using my bank App but that was not the case. There was No Signal at all!

While I struggled with the network I was told by the transport company that I was supposed to be the last passenger for the last bus of the day, you can imagine being in such a situation.

I panicked instantly because the moment another passenger walked into the ticket booth to buy a ticket theyā€™d go with that person and Iā€™d have to go back home and return the next day.

After switching off my phone a couple of times and putting it on flight mode I had to resort to another alternative. I had to borrow a phone from a total stranger to call my sister to make the transfer for me but my sister wasnā€™t picking up.

My sister is the one person who can come through for me anytime, any day so not being able to reach her at that point heightened my panic, and when Iā€™m like that it does feel like my brain stops functioning properlyšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

The money for the ticket was a bit expensive so asking for such an amount from just anyone was hard for me but I just had to do it anyway.

I called my cousin to help do the transfer but he couldnā€™t as he was having bank issues but he promised to find a way.

I knew I was screwed that day when the passengers started complaining that the bus driver had to get another passenger as some of them had been waiting way too long on the bus.

I kept on calling my sisterā€™s number and a few others but it was either their numbers did not connect or they didnā€™t pick up. I almost cried that day until my cousin was finally able to make the transfer for me.

All through the journey back home, I was cold, I couldnā€™t believe that a silly network could have ruined everything I had worked so hard for months, and trust me it wasnā€™t a good feeling.

I wish we could have a software that could detect when we are about to have network issues as that would be great. Having such would help prepare our minds and also help us brace ourselves for the worst-case scenario instead of being taken unawares every single time.

This is my response to the Digi-prompt, You can also join in the fun.

You said you were close to crying? I would have cried. A situation like that must have been so frustrating. And yes, it would really be nice to be notified before any network issue. That way, I can prepare all the cash I need, do everything before it happens because these things are so frustrating

It took everything in me not to let the floodgate out my darlingšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I had to wear my big girl's boot and trust me it wasn't easy.

You had a very terrible experience, sorry about that, if such software could exist it will be the best thing ever
