I am something of a tech person. I know the basics to keep me afloat and get things done, plus the nature of my job requires that I learn new things everyday which is why despite my age, I am more knowledgeable than a few of the young peeps out there.
In my years dealing with how to use gadgets, what works best for me and how to take care of them, I have encountered some mishaps. Many in fact and some not from personal experience. I read about bizarre stories online or in discord chats. These always spike my curiosity wondering why they behave that way and of course trying to find solutions on what might be wrong sends me googling away.
For example, one time I got talking with this guy and he was relating how his laptop sent a mind numbing shock through him. In his words, “It was scary.” It will be to me as well. Just imagine being sent into a startled planet with something as unsuspecting as a laptop. Googling did explain some of the reasons why the guy got a surprise from his laptop.
There were a series of reasons lined up from faulty charger, static electricity, exposure to liquid and power outlet issues. The guy did say he went to get the laptop checked out as he was always careful not to touch certain parts. He also mentioned he could not spend his life being scared of a non-living object. That cracked me up. Turned out he had power leakage from his adapter, a faulty one. As a solution, he got a new one and the problem was solved. Sometimes, these things need tiny solutions while other times, it requires time to fix, and money too.
Reminds me of another story I came across years ago about a young lady being rushed to intensive care when her phone exploded in her hand. My first thought was how much that must have hurt. Frankly, I think many people lack a sense of responsibility when it comes to taking care of their electronics or gadgets, and then wonder why it doesn’t last.
A great example is a wire earpiece. It should have its designated spot where you hang it and not just fold and throw in a pile. It would keep getting destroyed.
Back to the part about the phone, it was later found out that she was using her phone while plugged in. A lot of people make this mistake. While it seems harmless, it could be a genuine threat to your life and/or finances because what if the battery finally reacts to overuse?
There have also been cases where plugged phones left on beds lead to a fire due to overheating. It is rare but they have happened. In fact, sleeping with your phone close to you has been said to be bad for health. Apparently, your phones leave you vulnerable to radiation exposure and also the fact that it messes with the quality of your sleep thanks to the blue light. This is why health experts advise that you drop your phone thirty minutes before bed and read a book instead. It helps with improving the quality of your sleep.
One very common experience is the freezing or restarting of laptops and even phones. That is the tell-tale sign of a virus, software incompatibility, system corruption and overheating. When your phone overheats, you notice it tends to get slow and might just freeze altogether. Same happens when you input software not compatible with your device.
When my PC started acting funny, the first thing I did was run my scanner for malware and lucky for me, there was no damage. It was an easy fix but that may not be the case for some people. You may have to check for firmware issues, driver problems, buggy softwares, and look into the capability of the cooling function.
One other thing to be aware of is the exposure of our gadgets to dust and harsh temperature conditions. Always advisable to make sure our gadgets get the favourable conditions and care they need for a durable life.

I didn't believe that phones could explode until I saw it, it's crazy and dangerous, sometimes we get overconfident and do things we shouldn't with our devices.
That's true! We need to be more conscious
Very useful insights and advice you shared. As for using phones while they're plugged, and even using earphones, we still have many that are ignorant.
Dust is big! I don't think people are aware of it but they can be dangerous. I think when you live in dusty place it's great to have air filter or regular device cleaning since with PC and laptops, they can seep into the fan system and can cause problems.
I live in tropics and sometimes it gets so hot that it's best to leave phone at home than using it under 38C temperature where it can overheat the phone and damage it.
