I'm sure it's not the results that most Americans had hoped for, but the Little League World Series is over and the Asia-Pacific team has won the top honors. If you recall, I honestly thought it was going to be the Southeast and Japan against each other in the finals. It turns out the little team from Aruba had different plans.
The Caribbean team (Aruba) beat the Latin-America team from Venezuela 3 to 1 to advance back to the the showdown with the Asia-Pacific team in the semifinals on Saturday this past weekend.
Likewise, over on the US side of things, Mountain beat the Southeast 5 to 3 to find themselves facing Metro in the semi final game. That game was actually rematch of a game that had happened earlier when Metro beat Mountain 7 to 3.
Revenge is sweet though and the Mountain team from Las Vegas took down Metro 8 to 2 in the game that really mattered. Meanwhile, back on the International side, Asia-Pacific blanked Aruba 1 to 0 to eliminate the hot Aruba team from contention.
As I said, that set up the final with Vegas versus Chinese Taipei for the title.
The Taipei team was just too good shutting out the Vegas team 7 to 0. The Mountain team had a few chances to get some runs in, but it just didn't happen for them. The Asia-Pacific team was really good and I could tell after watching them a few rounds that they would likely do quite well in the tournament.
It's almost hard to believe that it is all over. After just about a month of hard work and even harder play, they now have to shift back into school mode and pick up their normal lives after a moment in the spotlight.
Even if they never get the chance again or things didn't work out quite the way they had hoped, I think this is a time in their lives that these young men will never forget. It might not be that exciting to say you spent your summer vacation in the middle of Pennsylvania, but when the stage looks like this, you can't really complain!
Congrats to the Little League World Series Champion Chinese Taipei team!
