In case you haven't heard, the MLB wildcard series kicks off today. I'm actually a little excited about it because I will likely be able to watch the Tigers at 1 today. Still pretty stupid they find themselves in the wildcard game instead of outright in the Championship series, but whatever. I guess beggars can't be choosers. Before we get to that, we need to talk about some NFL football. I'm still getting used to not caring about the NFL as much as I used to.
Back when I had my fantasy team I kept much better track of more than just the Detroit Lions. I had a vested interest in some of the other teams in the league and that made the games more enjoyable to watch over the weekend. Now that our league is basically defunct, I simply don't care as much as I used to. It's a weird feeling.
Things got "kicked off" on Thursday night with the Seahawks facing the Cardinals down in Arizona. Seattle ended up winning 23 to 20 in a game that I didn't bother watching since I don't particularly care for either of the teams that were playing.
Sunday morning I was busy driving into work to deal with a fiber issue, so I totally missed out on the Minnesota/Pittsburgh game in Dublin Ireland. That would have been cool to watch. My wife and I were watching one of the games the other week that was in a different country and she questioned how much the people over or down there really care about American Football.
Either way, Pittsburgh ended up winning 24 to 21 against the Vikings. I guess that Celtic magic didn't help them. Houston blanked Tennessee 26 to 0 which again I find extremely hard to believe. These are the days where kickers nail 60+ yard field goals for breakfast as @hanshotfirst mentioned. It's hard to imagine a game where a team scores zero points.
Philly beat Tampa Bay 31 to 25 in a game that was pretty hotly contested. I honestly wouldn't know, I was watching The Lions. The Giants beat The Chargers 21 to 18 in an outcome that I find kind of surprising given how LA started the season. New England took down Carolina 42 to 13 and Buffalo throttled New Orleans 31 to 19. Is it possible The Saints are the Panthers of this season? Asking for a friend...
It was a good weekend for Detroit fans as the Lions whooped the Browns 34 to 10. It actually wasn't looking too great at the beginning of the game, but the Lions seemed to pull things together and actually come away with a nice victory. Congrats to them on that.
Atlanta beat Washington 34 to 27, and Jacksonville took down San Francisco 26 to 21. We also had the Rams beating the Colts 27 to 20 this weekend and The Bears besting Las Vegas in what was a clutch field goal block at the end of the game.
The Chiefs annoyingly beat Baltimore 37 to 20, and as a Lions fan I can't say I am sad to see that Green Bay and The Cowboys earned a tie after overtime 40 to 40. That moves The Lions up to the top of the NFC North for the time being.
Finally, last night Miami beat The Jets 27 to 21, and Denver was victorious over Cincinnati 28 to 3. Ouch!
That leaves three teams in the NFL with zero wins... The Saints, The Titans, and The Jets. Likewise, the only undefeated teams are Philly, and Buffalo. Sounds about right...
I don't even know the rules of this sport, my favorite sport is swimming, getting back into sport would be good for me, thinking about it is already a big step
I failed swimming class when I was a kid. I've never been much good at it.
