Deja Vu

Here we are only two games in to the preseason and the headlines for the Detroit Lions are already focusing on injuries. That isn't to make light of what happened in last Friday's game, but it is still a bit concerning given the fact that The Lions struggled with injuries the second half of the season last year. Struggled to the point that it essentially ended their playoff run.

There was a lot of hope that they would figure all that out in the off-season and enter the new season with a fresh roster that is deep enough to take them through the full 17+ game season.

Sadly, in the Friday night game Lions Safety Morice Norris had a pretty nasty injury that effectively shut down the game. It looks like now it was a nasty knock to the head but they weren't sure at the time if there was neck or spinal cord damage. I didn't actually watch the game, but I heard about it from various sources.

Apparently, according to Lions head coach Dan Campbell, the NFL wanted them to continue the game. Event though Norris had just been taken off the field via ambulance in the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Basically what happened instead is that the coaches agreed to just let the clock run out and it forced the NFL to suspend the game instead of making them play it out. Being down 7 points with a full quarter left to play, that was a pretty big move by the Falcons head coach.

My hats off to him for that. I don't think the players would have been able to focus too well anyway. Plus it was just preseason, so does anyone really care at this point? I mean in the first game last week the Lions only had one or two of their starters dressed to play!

The Lions ended up "winning" the game 17 to 10 as far as the NFL is concerned I guess.

In other preseason results, Baltimore beat Indy, Philly beat Cincy, and Vegas tied with Seattle. The Browns continued to add to the Panthers woes with a 30 to 10 victory and New England hammered Washington 48 to 18.

Giants over Buffalo, Minnesota over Houston, and the Steelers over the Jags.

The Rams stumped the Cowboys 31 to 21, The Bucs felled the Titans 29 to 7, and Arizona stopped KC 20 to 17.

Finally, The Jets took down the Pack 30 to 10, Denver also scored 30 to San Francisco's 9, The Dolphin and the Bears tied at 24, and LA beat the Saints 27 to 13.
