It was a long but fun night last night watching our niece play volleyball at the school where my wife and I work. She actually attends a different school, but it's close enough that they made the drive up to where we work along with a couple other schools for a "Quad". I'm telling you, if you have never really sat down and watched volleyball, you should do yourself a favor and do it.
It's like a dance with people moving all over the place in what seems like chaos, but they all have a purpose and plan. We saw some amazing digs last night and some saves that would have totally blown you away. It's actually quite thrilling if you allow yourself to get into it.
Our nieces team quickly won their first set against a local private Baptist school before they lost in a hard fought second set. The format was best of three, so this led to a third set where they ended up losing again. That Baptist team then went on to beat the other two schools they played.
Our niece plays for the Varsity team, but the Junior Varsity team also traveled with them and that team is coached by our nieces mom (our sister in law). Her team actually did great winning all of their matches in straight sets. It was awesome to watch them and her as a coach.
After a short break, our nieces team faced off against the team from the district where we work. It was a close couple of games, but our nieces team ended up winning in straight sets. As I said before, it was an exciting night!
As we enter into the second week of the NCAA football season, it's going to look a little different than it did last weekend. Where as last weekend we had a handful of top 25 match ups, this week there is only one. All the rest of the games are cupcake games.
(15) Michigan is facing off against (18) Oklahoma on Saturday night and it actually might be a good game so it is going to be hard to pull myself away from the Michigan State/Boston College game which I also hope is a good game. If I had to guess, odds are probably against the Michigan State Spartans on this one, but I hope they are able to pull out a win or at least keep things close.
Although these are basically cupcake games, last week proved that upsets are not out of the question. Iowa over (16)Iowa State is definitely a possibility. Likewise, I don't think Kentucky should be counted out against (20) Ole Miss. Especially since they are playing in Lexington.
If I still had any money in my betting accounts, I might put some down on those two games, but I really don't, so I will probably just keep what little dignity I have left and watch as a spectator, not a bettor.
Along with some more local football and volleyball as well as the NFL, it is going to be a busy week for me. I hope I find a bit of time to relax!
Volleyball was one of my favourite sports to play, did you play?
I've played for fun with like church youth group and stuff like that, but nothing on the level of these young ladies!
Oh cool, I remember captaining Orkney Islands when we beat Shetland Islands at rugby then volleyball the next day. Sport is great, just a pity now I have to watch it on telly 🤣
