Staying Motivated When Life Tries to Break You.

Life is full of ups and downs, and if we’re being honest, there are moments when everything just feels like it’s falling apart. Sometimes the challenges can be so overwhelming that the thought of giving up starts creeping into your mind. I’ve been there a couple of times myself, and if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you have too.

When I feel like giving up, the first thing I do is remind myself why I started in the first place. It might sound simple, but it’s so powerful. Take Hive, for instance. I remember when I first joined the platform, everything felt so exciting and full of possibilities. For the first few months, things were going smoothly — I was posting, interacting, and even earning something small here and there. But there were also moments when it felt like nothing was working anymore. Engagement would drop, rewards would reduce, and it almost felt like I was invisible. It’s during times like that I have to sit myself down and have a real conversation with myself.

Why did I start this journey in the first place? I didn’t come to Hive just for the fun of it. I had goals — to earn some money to support myself, to meet amazing people from different parts of the world, and to build a name for myself that could lead to opportunities later on. When I remind myself of these goals, it reignites that fire in me. Instead of drowning in disappointment, I focus on how to do better. Maybe I need to engage more. Maybe I need to step out of my comfort zone and build genuine connections with other people. The way I see it, if you keep doing the same thing and expecting different results, you’ll only end up frustrated. Growth on any platform — whether it’s Hive, life, or anything else — takes intentionality.

Another thing that keeps me going is my mum. Honestly, she’s my biggest motivation. Life hasn’t always been easy, and sometimes my education alone feels like a heavy burden. The stress, the endless assignments, the sleepless nights — it can get too much. But when I’m on the verge of giving up, I think about her. I think about all the sacrifices she has made just to see me succeed. She’s the one person who believes in me even when I’m struggling to believe in myself. Knowing that I have someone looking up to me, rooting for me, and hoping to see me win, gives me that extra strength to push through tough days.

It’s not every day that you wake up feeling motivated. Some days, you just have to show up even when you don’t feel like it. And that’s okay. Motivation isn’t something that stays with you all the time — sometimes you have to create it yourself. Whether it’s by remembering your "why", thinking about the people you don’t want to disappoint, or simply visualizing the future you want for yourself, you can find that little spark to keep moving forward.

At the end of the day, giving up doesn’t make the problem go away. It only puts a full stop to dreams that could have become reality. So when the road gets tough, I choose to keep going — not because it’s easy, but because I owe it to myself, and to the people who believe in me, to see it through.
