Healthy competition encourages hard work and pushes one beyond their perceived barriers to not settle for less but the best. A healthy competition also fosters creativity, innovation and continuous positive change which benefits the individual and people around him too.
There are so many ways competition can be tagged healthy but if only it is free from envy and jealousy else it cannot be tagged as being healthy. A lot of people have benefited from a healthy competition and I am not left out. So let me start from when I was in highschool. Back then, I think I was in senior secondary school (ss1). I read my book but not until exams are fast approaching where it almost seems I was reading under pressure with not enough time to go through my note as I am supposed to do. Most of the time I don't even read the compliment notes before entering into the exam hall. So God help me, I wasn't always among the top five, but you will probably see me among seventh positions or the tenth and it continued so.
Second term of that same class, we had a new student who was coming from a public school. You know a lot of the students were like she's just a piece of cake and can't beat the class. Over here, it is mostly believed that students from government schools are always lazy academically but we got it all wrong. When our grades for that term came out, even our teachers were surprised as to how Grace scored so good and from that day I stopped looking down on anyone.
Grace became someone I secretly admire so I want to do better with my grades too and I believed it. So literally I was in a competition with her to do better academically. I read my book frequently and took school seriously. Finally, when the term ended I smiled at my average position... Like I came third in class but Grace still maintained her first position. This is how healthy competition has helped me and more.
I also made sure to carry out my cleaning routine and this is my cleanplanet activity for today.
