It Doesn't Get Easier When Moving Up

I used to think that growing older will mean life will be easier or even more simple but this is really not so. Sometimes, it gets harder and more complex.

The innocence and openness of a young child is something I always marvel at, the ability to meet each moment as it is. Most adults have gradually lost this ability while growing up, they're either somewhere at the past or the future but hardly at the present.

The transformation from childhood to adulthood is no doubt multifaceted. But one thing is quite certain, young children are like a sponge that absorbs everything around them and it is the building block in which they view the world and conduct their affairs.

I clearly don't wish life to be easier because that is plain wishful thinking but I willed it to be much more simpler, stripping away all this unnecessary complexity that makes it harder.

More To Gain, More To Lose

One of my first taste of childhood nostalgia was when a number of responsibilities were involuntarily assigned to me. And since people were involved, leadership was also on the table. And the first rule of leadership is that everything is your fault.

This was precisely my problem because if the guy over there messed up. It is his fault and clearly not mine. This world of leadership with collaboration and working as a team was completely foreign to me, and I held the preconceived idea that everything should be done on your own.

This might have worked in solo mode with simple tasks but when things change, old ways are no longer applicable. It was a time to shed away a preconceived idea and embrace new concepts.

Working as a team will require one to not be self-centered and be open to other viewpoints in solving the objective at hand, to collaborate with other team members to get work done and to delegate certain tasks to other members and trust that they will do it.

Humans can be messy, things don't always work out the way we want them to and there's always a level of friction amongst the team members. As a team, there's more at stake to win and to lose. To win when everything goes right and to lose when one thing goes wrong.

As much as I like to win, within a team, I can't win on my own based on my efforts, I'm interdependent on the team to grab that win with me. And in some cases, one can give his/her utmost best and still end up losing.

Argh! Despite experiencing it numerous times already, I still can't fully comprehend or make sense of it. Perhaps, I should experience a few more and shed away more preconceived ideas. What do you think?

stripping away all this unnecessary complexity that makes it harder.

I feel the same about moving up or growing and even on a broader look. You can't mind your business enough there are complexities that are necessarily in place to make progress a pain.

Yes, indeed. It's like this entanglement that's part of the equation and you just have to deal with it while trying to achieve the objective you set out for yourself.

I have been a lone wolf for as long as I can remember. However, in the few situations where I have worked with others have had issues, especially with leadership roles where I overcompensate and try to do everything. I would rather work in a team where there is an effective leader who can delegate tasks properly. this way I am not burdened with the responsibility of a leader.

I like being a lone wolf too.
Working within a team is quite unavoidable and the situation arises every now and then. I think finding a team like that would be a dream come true, making the work so much simpler.

The older one gets, the more clear it becomes; there are a lot of responsibilities that accompany grow and we learn this as we advance in life.

Rightly said! Getting stubborn about it seems futile. We just have to suck it up and get to work, getting used to it overtime.

As someone who has held some leadership role in school and in my neighbourhood, I have learnt that to be a leader you have to be selfless because every eyes is on you to make the right decision that will influence the fate of the team or group, leaders can't afford to make bias decision based on selfish interest.

One of the most interesting thing about taking leadership role, it increases your ability to take on difficult task and influences your rate of maturity.

I've noticed that aspect too. You can't behave like a baby when you're put in a leadership position. Selfless acts and thinking beyond oneself is something that I pretty much failed at in the beginning, it gets better with more practice. With those experiences, you're probably doing great already.

Sometimes one would like to turn back the clock and go back to that time when our concerns were studies, having friends and going out with them. Adult life and its complexities are complicated, but at least we have the consolation that, after so many obstacles, we will have our reward in the end. At least that's my opinion 😅

Lol, absolutely! Whether tangible or intangible, we definitely have to be rewarded for these complexities that we have to put up with in our adult life. Everything was just so simple and easy in childhood.

For a team to achieve its goals, the members have to co-operate with each other and be ready to take responsibility when anything goes wrong and not apportioning blames.
Also, there has to be understanding and a spirit of oneness among them inorder to meet their goals.

Rightly so! The blaming game never really works, it's the collective responsibility of the team. I think this spirt of oneness is a necessary foundation that every team needs to function properly.

Being a leader it's best to have the mentality of being the follower. To ask for the opinion, suggestions and ideas of your members, so that in the end if everything not work out, the blaming is lesser. And best ideas comes with United knowledge. And as long as you are doing your best and what right and kind, don't look on failure. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. God bless you! I come from #dreemport

You sum it up quite well! Working as a team will require behaving like a team and solving problems together, each person giving his or her best without blaming the other person for doing less.
