Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, sunday the 22/09/2024 in history.

We begin today from Poland. Do you know that on this day in 1980, representatives from 36 unions got together and, led by Lech Wałęsa, formed Solidarity, the Polish trade union and political group that would go on to become a centre of resistance against Soviet rule.

From Poland, we move over to the middle east. Do you also know that on this day in 1980, the Iran-Iraq War began when Iraqi armed forces invaded western Iran along the country's shared border; fighting lasted until 1988, and a formal peace treaty was signed in 1990.

From the Middle East (Iran-Iraq War), we move over to Brazil. Now, on this day in 1976, Ronaldo, whose full name is Ronaldo Luiz Nazario de Lima, a retired football (soccer) player who led Brazil to the World Cup triumph in 2002 and won three FIFA Player of the Year honours (1996, 1997, and 2002), was born in Itaguai, Brazil.

From Brazil, we move over to England. Do you know that on this day in 1791, Michael Faraday, an English scientist and chemist whose numerous experiments contributed significantly to our understanding of electromagnetism was born in Newington, Surrey, England.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Japan. Do you know that on this day in 1878, Yoshida Shigeru, a Japanese political leader who served as Prime Minister of Japan for several terms during the critical transition period following World War II, when Allied soldiers occupied the country and Japan attempted to establish new democratic institutions, was born in Tokyo, Japan.

My good people, that will be all from me today. Let's do it again tomorrow.
