Today In History: 16 December 2024

Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. It is time to go round the globe to have a look at today in history being monday the 16/12/2024. We will begin today's look at history from the literary world. A departure from what has been for days now...the political world. Let's go...

We begin today from the world of literature [The birthday of Jane Austen]. On this day in 1775, acclaimed English novelist Jane Austen was born in Steventon, Hampshire, England. One of Jane Austen's notable work includes but not limited to Pride and Prejudice.

From the literary world, we move over to the United States of America [the infamous Boston Tea Party]. Do you also know that on this day in 1773, irked by the imposition of tax on tea the American colonialists disguising as Mohawk Indians attacked the British East Indian Company and as a way to protest such imposition of tax on tea threw away over 300 chests of tea into the Boston harbour in what is now known as the Boston tea ☕ party.

From the USA, we move over to Pakistan [the attack by Tehrik-e-Taliban]. Now, on this day in 2014, Tehrik-e-Taliban, an arm of the Taliban in Pakistan attacked a school in Peshawar, killing over 140 persons many of whom were children. The thriller went on to reck in over $2bn in sales worldwide.

From Pakistan, we move over to the world of movies and entertainment [the release of the sci-fi Avatar]. Do you know that on this day in 2009, Avatar, a sci-fi thriller directed by James Cameron was released internationally.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Italy [the death of Giovanni Agnelli]. Do you know that on this day in 1945, the founder of Fiat whose full meaning is (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino) automobile died in Turin at the age of 79.
