Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, wednesday the 11/09/2024 in history.

We begin today from the United States of America. Do you know that on this day in 2001, 19 terrorists from the terrorist group al-Qaeda hijacked four planes in the United States, slamming three into buildings (the fourth in Pennsylvania) and killing about 3,000 people.

From the USA, we move over to Chile. On this day in 1973, President Salvador Allende of Chile was overthrown by a coup d'état led by General Augusto Pinochet.

From Chile, we move over to the world of music and entertainment. Now, on this day in 1977, Ludacris, an American rapper and actor who personified the vibrant, profanity-filled hip-hop genre known as the "Dirty South school," which was made popular by musicians from the southern states was born in Champaign, Illinois, U.S.A.

From the world of music and entertainment, we move over to Syria. On this day in 1965, Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian President since 2000 was born in Damascus, Syria. He succeeded his father, Hafez al-Assad, who has ruled Syria since 1971.

Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from the Philippines. Do you know that on this day in 1917, Ferdinand Marcos, a Philippine lawyer and politician who served as the country's President from 1965 to 1986, formed an authoritarian dictatorship that was criticised for corruption and the repression of democratic procedures was born in Sarrat, Philippines.
