Today In History: 10 August 2024
Hello all Hivians and good people of the Gems community. Most of us may not be aware of some major happenings or events around the globe that took place on this day many years ago. I will therefore take us round the globe in a giffey to have a look at some of those historical events that took place on this day, saturday the 10/09/2024 in history.
We begin today from Guinea-Bisaau. Do you know that on this day in 1974, Guinea-Bissau gained independence from Portugal. Happy independence anniversary to them.
From Guinea-Bisaau, we move over to the world of inventors and inventions. On this day in 1846, Elias Howe, an American inventor, was granted a patent for his sewing machine, which revolutionised garment manufacturing in both factories and homes.
From the world of inventors and inventions, we move over to Japan. Now, on this day in 1651,Yui Shōsetsu, a Japanese rebel, committed suicide following the failure of his conspiracy against the Tokugawa Shogunate.
From Japan, we move over to China. On this day in 1964, Jack Ma, a Chinese entrepreneur who led the Alibaba Group, which included some of China's most popular websites, such as the business-to-business marketplace Alibaba.com and the shopping site Taobao was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China.
Gentlemen, we'll round off our today's look in history from Angola. Do you know that on this day in 1922, Agostinho Neto, an Angolan poet, surgeon, and politician who became the People's Republic of Angola's first President from 1975 to 1979 was born in Icolo e Bengo, Angola.
