Taking Advantage of the Earthquake Rule by Using Monsters with the Flying Ability

Yesterday my third Brawl ended since I returned to Splinterlands and this time I had the best result in the battles since I got 6 wins and only 2 losses.

In this Brawl I entered the Fray Gold Foil from the gold league because I arrived very late when it came time to select the Fray and this was the only Fray available and no one else wanted to enter. At first I thought I would have a disappointing result because besides never having played in a Fray Gold Foil before, I only had Gold Foil cards from the silver league so I would be at a great disadvantage in the battles, but I was wrong and my strategies were superior and in the end I got a great result getting the ninth position in my guild's ranking.

My guild is Under New Management, it is currently ranked 31st in the guild rankings and fights in Tier 4 Brawls since the guild arena is at level 7. Under New Management is also a level 10 guild and gives me a +20% bonus in my ranked battles, so I can say that I was very lucky to get a spot in it as a player who recently returned to Splinterlands.

Luckily, in the battles, my opponents also didn't use Fray's max level cards, so I wasn't at a big disadvantage, but they still used great cards and the battles weren't easy.

Of the battles I had, the most fun was one with the Earthquake rule since I tried to use a strategy a little different from what I usually use and the result was better than I expected.

See the Battle

This is the battle I'm talking about and as you can see, in addition to the Earthquake rule, there are also the Fog of War and Ferocity rules.

In the Earthquake Rule, all monsters that do not have the Flying ability will receive 2 physical damage at the beginning of each round, starting in the second round.

In the Fog of War Rule, all monsters will lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities, which means they will only be able to attack the opponent's monster positioned in the first position.

In the Ferocity Rule, all monsters will gain the Fury ability and will deal double damage against monsters that have the Taunt ability.

The reason I selected the monsters for this battle was because of the Earthquake and Fog of War rules. My strategy was very simple and I placed all my hopes on my last 3 monsters, which are Pelacor Deceive, Riftwing and Ever-Hungry Skull. All 3 have the Flying ability and will not be affected by the Earthquake rule. However, Pelacor Deceive and Ever-Hungry Skull will not be able to attack since they are melee monsters and are not in the first position.

My strategy was to rely on the Earthquake rule to deal damage to my opponent's monsters and win by resistance since I have 3 cards that will not be affected by the Earthquake rule. When I looked at the monsters my opponent used, I realized that I made the right choice because none of his monsters have the Flying ability, so they will all receive 2 physical damage at the beginning of each round of the Earthquake rule.

In the first position I selected Cursed Windeku which is an excellent choice for a tank card since it has a lot of health and will also be very useful in dealing damage because it has a good amount of attack and also the Thorns rule which will deal damage when it is attacked by a melee attack.

In the second position I selected Shadow Snitch which is also a melee monster and has the ability Reach, so it will be able to attack in the second position.

In the third position I selected Life Sapper which is a monster with a magic attack and has the ability Life Leech which means it will gain health based on 50% of the damage it deals.

I selected these 3 monsters so that they would buy time for Pelacor Deceive, Riftwing and Ever-Hungry Skull since they will be my hope in the battle.

In the end I was right to have chosen this battle because all of my opponent's monsters were quickly defeated by the damage caused by the Earthquake rule and in the end there were still Riftwing and Ever-Hungry Skull left in the battle, so even though I didn't cause much damage I was still able to achieve victory using the rules in my favor.
