Hello Splinterlands Summoners! Our guild just concluded another brawl in Splinterlands. I'll be posting about our performance, my Gladius case purchase and share my favorite battles.
Our guild had a good performance in this brawl. We were in rank four with 102 wins and 58 losses earning 110 crowns that we can use to improve our guild buildings.
My own contribution to the brawl was not bad. I won six battles and lost two. Each of us earned 5,700 merits and 89 SPS. Not a bad haul in this week.
I have a little over six thousand merits that I used to buy three Gladius cases. Each Gladius case contain five cards with one guaranteed rare or higher. This means that I will have fifteen new cards in my collection that I can use to upgrade my existing cards.
Today's Gladiator case pull was not too bad. I didn't get any legendary cards but I had two epic cards including another copy of Quora. This brings me closer to upgrading my existing card collection.
Here are a couple of the battles I won. I'll share my reasons for choosing the teams I used in battle.
The following battle involves the Noxious Fumes ruleset. I don't have any units with Immunity or Cleanse so I chose units with high health.
My key card in this battle is Quora Towershead. She brings a lot of offense in her kit and she is also tough with twelve health and Healing ability. In the front line I put Folen Flameeye and Warborn Chieftain combo. Folen Flameeye is a usable tank with Flank ability. This ability allows me to put another tank, the Warborn Chieftain in the second position. Both cards have high attack and health, the best I can do in this ruleset. Making up the rest of my team are Quilliun Legionary, Thanalorian Blade and Fenmoor Woodtroll. The two ranged attackers were chosen for their high health and two ranged attack while the Thanalorian Blade was a regular whenever I use the Earth splinter because of her Opportunity and Execute ability. The combo of those abilities help hunt down low health enemy units.
The opponent's team has impressive synergy. He has the Grimbardun Smith in tank position. It has high health and have the Immunity ability to counter the Noxious Fumes ruleset. It also has the Void ability to mitigate damage from magic attacks. In second position he also has another high health unit with Silence. Luckily I only had one magic attacker since magic attacks are nullified. In third position he has the reliable Captain Katie with four magic attack. In fourth and fifth positions he has units with Triage which will heal units not in the tank position. In the last position he has a unit with Tank Heal to help sustain his already sturdy tank. This is a team built for sustainability that has Captain Katie as its main damage dealer.
While my team does not have any abilities to counter the effects of Poison, they have high health to help them stay in battle. Also, the enemy team does not do a lot of damage to reduce my team. He depended on the Poison and healing of his team hoping that his team will survive long enoug while mine was being killed by Poison damage. However, my damage dealers did their job. My team decimated the enemy faster than the Poison killed them.
The next battle severely limited my choices. The ruleset is Even Stevens and only three splinters are available to use. I don't have good even mana cards in the Life and Dragon splinters so I chose the Death team.
In the tank position, I had the legendary Gladiator card, Tatiana Blayde. She deals two ranged and three melee damage every turn, a devastating offensive card. On the other hand, she is a bit squishy with only five health and no armor. On second position I had another legendary card, Death Ranger. This can be a good tank especially in the Death splinter that grants Close Range ability to units. The Death Ranger has six armor and four health. It also has the Void Shield ability to help defend itself against magic attacks. In third position I had the Silverleaf Warlock who deals two magic damage. In addition, he also buffs the team with an additional speed. In fourth position, I had the Shadowfey Shiek. This card combines offense and sustainability. It deals two magic damage and has the Flying and Life Leech abilities. In fifth and last position I had the Chaos Battle Mage who deals three ranged attack and has Piercing and Rebirth abilities.
My opponent chose the Dragon splinter and also has Tatiana in his team. The rest of his team deal lower damage than mine so I had the advantage in this battle.
Tatiana Blayde was not a good choice for the tank position and she was eliminated quickly while the opponent's Tatiana activated her Bloodlust twice. Luckily, she was also disposed by my team before she can do anymore damage. With the opponent's key card gone, the battle went smoothly in my favor.
