Hello Splinterlands Summoners and welcome to another edition of Social Media Challenge! In this post, let's take a deep dive into the new Conflicts airdrop card, Calamity.
Years ago, an axolotl egg found its way into the brood of Sheng Xiao. When it hatched, the lung dragon took it in, nurtured it, protected it, taught it to harness magic. She named it Calamity.
But Calamity is still just a salamander, but with the power of a dragon; that’s a recipe for chaos and curiosity with little control.
Calamity is a legendary dragon card. At max level, it deals three magic damage, has four speed and plenty of health with ten. On abilities, it gets five at max level including powerful ones like Shapeshift. In addition it also has abilities to be extra tanky like Last Stand and Life Leech. It has Expose to debuff the enemy's abilities like Forcefield, Deflect, Void and Void Armor among others. On the other hand, it has the Electrified (dis)ability that damages it's team mates with one at the start of the round and two damage at the succeeding rounds. This is one of the new abilities that I dislike. I would rather it had the Flying ability since it has wings. Mana wise, it only needs four mana to field in battle making it available in Little League ruleset.
The main role of Calamity is a magic damage dealer in the rear. With the combination of its high damage output and tanky health and abilities like Life Leech, it's a great unit to defend against Sneak attackers. You would also want this unit to be the last surviving unit in your team because of its Last Stand ability. On the other hand, Calamity can also be a viable to take the role of the tank in the front line. Having a huge health and abilities to sustain itself, it can be a good tank in low mana battles.
Calamity belongs to the Dragon Splinter which means it can be paired with all other Splinters. There are a lot of teams out there that can use Calamity in the line up.
Vicious Giraffe is an off tank that has the Painforge ability. It's damage potential increases the more it gets hurt but Electrified. This is one unit that came to mind as a possible combo to Calamity.
Swiftbeard Stout has the Bloodline Tribute ability that grants additional stats to similar bloodlines when it gets eliminated. I'm not sure if Calamity's Shapeshift ability will benefit from this but this will be a cool combo if it does.
Zargrul has both Painforge and Bloodline Tribute abilities. As I wrote above, these abilities will benefit from Calamity's Electrified ability. Also, Zargrul is also a magic user. He and Calamity will be ideal in magic only or no melee units rulesets. Zargrul is an ideal magic unit tank while Calamity is great in the rear. Both units have the Expose ability to counter the enemy's abilities like Forcefield, Lookout, Cleanse, Immunity and others.
Shadowfey Shiek combines damage and sustainability. It has the Painforge ability that will make his attack more powerful every time he is damaged by Calamity's Electried ability but he also has Life Leech that will recover his health by 50% of his damaged dealt therefore he gets more health the more his attacks get stronger. This is a unit that can survive Calamity's Electrified while taking benefit from it.
Deep Delver has Corrupted Healing that will heal units that got damaged by Calamity's Electrified. He also has Deflection Shroud that will grant the Deflect ability to units adjacent to her which will probably be Calamity since they are both rear units. Her ranged damage is also great at four to eliminate the enemy units.
For the same reason as the Shadowfey Shiek, Aranduriel has both Painforge and Life Leech abilities. Her attacks become stronger the longer the battle and she can also sustain herself with Life Leech.
There you have it, my deep dive and initial list of units that can combo with Calamity. Basically, units with Painforge, Life Leech and Bloodline Tribute abilities. I'm sure others will have their own ideas and I'm excited to see Calamity in battle!

I've seen this Purple Dragon in a previous post. It's really powerful, and the cards you suggested for pairing it with it are also great. I hope I can add this card to my deck too.
