My Splinterlands Journey: Strategy, Fun, and My Wild Cards Dilemma
On Splinterlands, I have always been more of a player than an investor.
In fact, on Splinterlands, as in all blockchain-based games, there is always a dual aspect:
- a playful aspect because Splinterlands is a fun game with great gameplay
- a financial aspect because it is possible to purchase assets (tokens and NFTs)
In blockchain-based games, fun is the basis of every choice I make, and the more I enjoy a game, the more I am incentivized to purchase the game's assets (tokens and NFTs).
When I enjoy playing, fun is the best payment for me, and the financial aspect takes a back seat.
When I don't enjoy playing or enjoy it only a little, the financial aspect comes first.
Splinterlands offers several game modes, and you can choose to play in a single game mode or in all game modes simultaneously.
I am an active player:
- in Modern Format
- in Survival Mode
- in Brawls
- in Land
I would also like to play some tournaments because it has been a long time since I played in this game mode.
I no longer play in Wild Format because I don't like the combination of Wild Pass + bots and battle helpers, as it reduces my enjoyment to zero.
I prefer to play manually in the Modern Format where there are only human players like me.
Playing against a bot is zero fun for me!
The Modern Format is the format I enjoy the most and is the main reason I play Splinterlands.
On July 29, in four days, a new completely free-to-play format called Frontier will be released.
I like the idea behind the new format because free-to-play modes are important in every game and because I hope this format will be useful in expanding the base of active players.
I also like Splinterlands because it is a game that is constantly evolving and improving, and the creation of the new format will be further proof of this strength of Splinterlands.
However, in my opinion, there is still a major problem to be solved in the future: restoring the value of wild cards in the game.
I'm not talking about monetary value, but exclusively about gaming value, even though these two values are closely linked in a game.
Why do cards lose value when they leave the Modern Format?
For me, the answer is simple and clear: because cards that cannot be used in the Modern Format lose their most important use case, which is related to gaming and fun.
In my opinion, the problem to be solved is that there is no Ranked Play mode where you can use Wild Cards without being forced to play against bots.
I have 557 Wild Cards = 20,395 BCX = 552,690 CP
I have 118 wild cards (unbound) of the highest level, including:
- 11 archons
- 24 legendary unit cards
- 13 epic unit cards
- 35 rare unit cards
- 35 common unit cards
I don't use my wild cards in Wild Format because I don't enjoy playing against bots and Wild Format is full of bots.
I don't use my wild cards in Wild Format because with 139K SPS staked, I would earn very little due to the cost of the Wild Pass and because XBOT would earn more than me. I say this because I did a three-season test in Wild Format.

I would immediately return to playing in Wild Format if there were no bots, and I am convinced that completely eliminating bots from Splinterlands would bring significant benefits in the long run, but this is only my personal opinion and is not shared by Splinterlands and other players.
My current strategy regarding my wild cards is to complete my second seasonal test in Survival Mode and, based on the rewards I get, I will decide:
- whether to sell all my Wild cards
- whether to put them on the rental market
- whether to do both
A few days ago, I put some of my Wild cards up for sale at the lowest BCX price on the market.
There isn't much demand for wild cards, and in fact my cards are still unsold, but if I manage to sell them, I will use all thearnings to purchase cards of the Conclave Arcana set, and my main focus will be on purchasing/upgrading the archons of the Conclave Arcana set for two reasons:
- they are the summoners that will have the longest lifespan in the Modern Format because they will be usable in the Modern Format even when the new sewill be released
- I only have one top-tier summoner usable in the Modern Format (Akane), and my game results depend heavily on this archon.
When I can use Akane at her maximum level, I can also use my maximum level unit cards, and my win rate is over 50% in the Diamond leagues.
When I can't use Akane, I often lose battles.
To increase the level of my Conclave Arcana summoners and also to increase the level of Conclave Arcana unit cards, I decided to focus on purchasing Starter packs and individual cards from the market when I am close to increasing the level of my archons.
Today I purchased 1 BCX of the archon Gorgug the Endless.
To purchase this card, I used https://monstermarket.io/ because it offers cashback to those who purchase cards.
I spent 1803.88 DEC and received cashback = 64.94 DEC
Thanks to this purchase, I have increased the level of my Gorgug the Endless: level 2 -> level 3
I still need to purchase 101 BCX to reach the maximum level, but even the transition from level 2 to level 3 will be useful in Modern Format battles because, together with level 3 Gorgug the Endless, I will be able to use level 4 common cards instead of level 3, level 3 rare cards, and level 2 legendary cards.
For example, when I use Gorgug the Endless, I can use the Triage ability of my Daarg Deadblast, which will be a good advantage for me in battles.
One of my main goals on Splinterlands is to increase the amount of SPS staked in my possession.
I continue to make progress, although after the release of the Conclave Arcana set, I slowed down my race towards 150K staked SPS because I use the SPS earnings I receive from staking to purchase cards of the Conclave Arcana set while continuing to stake the SPS earnings I get from battle victories.
I end this post by showing my partial seasonal results in Modern Format and Survival Mode, as well as my last two battles won in these two formats.
In Modern Format, I am in the Diamond III league with a rating score of 2860 points and have played 204 battles, winning 98 of them.
I am relatively well positioned in the Diamond Leaderboard (55th place) but, of course, I hope to improve this position before the end of the season.
In Survival Mode, I am in the Silver I league, but having resumed playing in this format in the current season, I am participating in the Bronze Leaderboard, where I am in second place. If I maintain this position, I will receive 75,000 GLINT, which will be very useful for making progress in upgrading my Rebellion reward cards.
In the next image, you can see my last battle, which I won by playing manually in Modern Format (my favorite format) in the Diamond III league with an SPS boost x10.57 (139K SPS staked).

Su Splinterlands sono stato sempre più un giocatore che un investitore.
Infatti su Splinterlands come in tutti i giochi basati su blockchain c'è sempre un duplice aspetto:
- un aspetto ludico perchè Splinterlands è un gioco divertente con un bel gameplay
- un aspetto finanziario perchè è possibile acquistare assets (tokens e NFT)
Nei giochi basati su blockchain il divertimento è alla base di ogni mia scelta e più un gioco mi diverte e più sono incentivato ad acquistare gli assets del gioco (tokens e NFT).
Quando mi diverto a giocare è il divertimento il miglior pagamento per me e l'aspetto finanziario passa in secondo piano.
Quando non mi diverto o mi diverto poco a giocare l'aspetto finanziario è al primo posto.
Su Splinterlands ci sono diverse modalità di gioco ed è possibile scegliere se giocare in una sola modalità di gioco oppure in tutte le modalità di gioco contemporaneamente.
Io sono un giocatore attivo:
- nel Modern Format
- nel Survival Mode
- nelle Brawls
- nelle Land
Mi piacerebbe giocare anche qualche torneo perchè è molto tempo che non gioco in questa modalità di gioco.
Non gioco più nel Wild Format perchè la combinazione Wild Pass + bots e battle helpers è una combinazione che non mi piace perchè riduce a 0 il mio divertimento.
Preferisco giocare manualmente nel Modern Format dove ci sono solo giocatori umani come me.
Giocare contro un bot equivale a 0 divertimento per me!
Il Modern Format è il formato nel quale mi diverto di più ed è la principale ragione per cui gioco su Splinterlands.
Il 29 luglio, tra quattro giorni, sarà rilasciato un nuovo formato completamente free to play che si chiamerà Frontier.
Mi piace l'idea alla base del nuovo formato perchè le modalità free to play sono importanti in ogni gioco e perchè spero che questo formato possa essere utile ad ampliare la base di giocatori attivi.
Mi piace Splinterlands perchè è un gioco in continua evoluzione e in continuo miglioramento e la creazione del nuovo formato sarà un ulteriore dimostrazione di questo punto di forza di Splinterlands.
Però, secondo me, c'è sempre un grande problema da risolvere in prospettiva futura: ridare valore di gioco alle wild cards.
Non sto parlando di valore monetario ma esclusivamente di valore di gioco anche se questi due valori sono strettamente legati in un gioco.
Perchè le carte perdono valore quando escono dal Modern Format?
Per me la risposta è semplice e anche chiara: perchè le carte che non possono essere utilizzate nel Modern Format perdono il caso d'uso più importante, quello collegato al gioco e al divertimento.
Secondo me il problema da risolvere è che non c'è una modalità Ranked Play in cui è possibile utilizzare le Wild Cards senza essere costretti a giocare contro i bots.
Io ho 557 Wild cards = 20395 BCX = 552690 CP

Tornerei immediatamente a giocare nel Wild Format se non ci fossero i bots e sono convinto che eliminare completamente i bots da Splinterlands porterebbe grossi vantaggi nel lungo periodo ma questa è solo la mia personale opinione e non è condivisa da Splinterlands e da altri giocatori.
La mia attuale strategia relativa alle mie wild cards è di completare il mio secondo test stagionale nel Survival Mode e in base alle ricompense che otterrò deciderò:
- se mettere in vendita tutte le mie Wild cards
- se metterle nel mercato del noleggio
- se fare entrambe le cose
Qualche giorno fa ho messo in vendita alcune mie Wild cards al prezzo per BCX più basso sul mercato.
Non c'è molta richiesta per le wild cards e infatti le mie carte sono ancora invendute ma se riuscirò a venderle utilizzerò tutti i guadagni per acquistare le carte del set Conclave Arcana e il mio focus principale sarà sull'acquisto/upgrade degli archons del set Conclave Arcana per due motivi:
- sono gli evocatori che avranno più tempo di vita nel Modern Format perchè saranno utilizzabili nel Modern Format anche quando sarà rilasciato un nuovo set
- ho solo un evocatore di massimo livello utilizzabile nel Modern Format (Akane) e i miei risultati di gioco dipendono fortemente da questo archon.
Quando posso utilizzare Akane di livello massimo posso utilizzare anche le mie carte unità di massimo livello e il mio win rate è superiore al 50% nelle Diamond leagues.
Quando non posso utilizzare Akane perdo spesso le battaglie.
Per aumentare il livello dei miei evocatori Conclave Arcana e per aumentare anche il livello delle carte unità Conclave Arcana ho deciso di focalizzarmi sull'acquisto degli Starter packs e sull'acquisto di singole carte dal mercato quando sono vicino ad aumentare il livello dei miei archons.
Oggi ho acquistato 1 BCX dell'archon Gorgug the Endless.
Per acquistare questa carta ho utilizzato https://monstermarket.io/ perchè offre un cashback a chi acquista le carte.
Ho speso 1803.88 DEC e ho ricevuto un cashback = 64.94 DEC
Grazie a questo acquisto ho aumentato il livello del mio Gorgug the Endless: level 2 -> level 3
Devo acquistare ancora 101 BCX per raggiungere il massimo livello ma già il passaggio dal livello 2 al livello 3 mi sarà utile nelle battaglie nel Modern Format perchè insieme a Gorgug the Endless di livello 3 potrò utilizzare carte comuni di livello 4 invece del livello 3, carte rare di livello 3 e le carte leggendarie di livello 2.
Ad esempio quando utilizzerò Gorgug the Endless potrò usare l'abilità Triage del mio Daarg Deadblast e questo sarà un buon vantaggio per me nelle battaglie.
Uno dei miei obiettivi principali su Splinterlands è aumentare il quantitativo di SPS staked in mio possesso.
Continuo a fare progressi anche se dopo il rilascio del set Conclave Arcana ho rallentato la mia corsa verso i 150K SPS staked perchè utilizzo i guadagni in SPS che ricevo dallo staking per acquistare carte del set Conclave Arcana mentre continuo a mettere in staking i guadagni in SPS che ottengo dalle vittorie in battaglia.
Concludo questo post mostrando i miei risultati stagionali parziali nelle modalità di gioco Modern Format e Survival Mode e mostrando anche le mie ultime due battaglie vinte in questi due formati.
Nel Modern Format sono nella lega Diamond III con un punteggio di rating di 2860 punti e ho giocato 204 battaglie di cui 98 vittorie.
Sono posizionato relativamente bene nella Diamond Leaderboard (55° posto) ma, ovviamente, spero di migliorare questa posizione prima della fine della stagione.

Hi, I'm just starting out with Splinterlands. It seems like a very strategic game, but it seems fun.
I bot soni l'ultimo vero grande difetto di Splinterlands: probabilmente non incidono tanto sull'arrivo di nuovi giocatori (che magari non lo sanno neanche che nel wild format ci sono quasi solo bot), ma sicuramente hanno fatto allontanare tanti giocatori già registrati ed un tempo attivi.

People who have become addicted to this game play it every day because it is quite interesting and things get even more interesting when the cards are changed.
Nice job picking up those new cards to help out in Modern. I've sold a lot of my older cards as they have lost almost all of their value. It's a huge issue from the standpoint of an investor, which I do consider myself in addition to a player. I want my investments to at least retain their value. So we shall see what they decide t do to help those who lost a lot under their changes.
Great job stacking up that SPS, that's a huge stack!
I think the F2P mode is interesting. I am wondering, are you doing survival mode? I haven't been doing it but I heard a few people go there instead of modern because they didn't have many strong cards in the current modern.
