To begin a journey
There’s a solution to every problem, there’s an answer to every question, there’s a fulfillment to every request, and there are things we are expected to do. The society is cruel; therefore, the ball is in your court. Today I’ll be writing on steps and procedures in delaying gratification.

1.) Identify the temptation: in the sense that you know what exactly the flesh wants you to do, what wants to be used as a weapon against you, what you find enticing, what you have your eyes on. Some people are always tempted with money because it is clear that the person has submitted to the god of funds, people who are very dumb and are ready to do the dumbest and most foolish things in order to acquire money. So many people are trapped in various ways and circumstances because of things they’ve done in the past for money. Some die early, and the generation after them will suffer the consequences of their actions, but once you are clear about the temptation, you can’t fall. A Yoruba adage says: tí a bá mo oun tó n se wá, a tí sé ogun è. That is, if we know what is doing us or if we know the source of our flaws, we have overcome it; that means knowing alone is a solution of its own.

2.) Set clear goals: define why you are waiting. This means that you should identify your reasons for abstaining from that particular temptation or seduction. Know that you’re avoiding it not only for the consequences but also for the sake of yourself, cuz there are certain things we abstain from because of ourselves, our reputation, and face.

3.) Plan alternatives: find healthier distractions, do things that’ll keep you busy when there’s a lot on your hands, when your day is filled with activities you will get distracted from doing certain things which is a way of delaying gratification.
