The Nightmare of Ranged Attacks

(edited)

Since I started playing Splinterlands again, my focus has always been on Chaos Legion cards because it was the card edition I knew the most about in the game and also the cheapest card edition to rent for my current league, which is Champion 3. So I need max-level cards to compete in this league, and the Chaos Legion edition is useful, powerful, and cheap.

Using only cards from a single edition is not a good strategy because there are several other editions with powerful monsters and summoners. I remember that in 2022 when I played, summoners like Alric Stormbringer, Mylor Crowling, Scarred Llama Mage, Lorna Shine, Owster Rotwell, Lir Deepswimmer, and even the famous Yodin Zaku were used a lot by me in my battles, but I completely forgot about them and I'm currently learning more about the other editions to develop new strategies for my battles.

Today I'm going to talk about a summoner that isn't used much these days and I say this because it's very rare for me to see him in my battles, even in the Champion league. This summoner is Lir Deepswimmer and he's the worst nightmare of monsters with ranged attacks.

Lir Deepswimmer is a legendary summoner from the water deck, he belongs to the Untamed edition and is a great ally against monsters that have ranged attacks, but he also has other functions that will be very useful in battle.

As a legendary summoner, he has 4 levels, at all levels he will perform the same function, which is to grant +1 armor to all allied monsters and the abilities Return Fire and Blind.

Return Fire - This ability is the reason Lir Deepswimmer is known as the worst nightmare of monsters with ranged attacks because this ability causes 50% of the ranged damage received to be dealt to the monster that caused damage with the ranged attack.

This explanation was a little confusing, so I'll explain this ability through an example.

  • Let's take as an example a monster that has 4 ranged attack and this monster attacks a monster that has the Return Fire ability, the monster that attacked will deal 4 ranged damage to the other monster and the Return Fire ability will be activated and the monster that attacked will receive 50% of the ranged damage dealt, this means that it will receive 2 ranged damage.

Honestly, I would hate to use monsters with ranged attack when my opponent chooses Lir Deepswimmer to be his summoner and because of this ability he will be a great ally in battles, especially if he is used with the right strategy, like in the Going to the Distance rule where only monsters with ranged attack can be used in battle.

Blind - This ability causes Lir Deepswimmer to apply the Blinded effect to enemy monsters and this means that they will have -15% chance of hitting physical attacks. This is a great ability to have in battles because the more attacks the enemy monsters miss, the better it will be for your monsters. This ability becomes even more incredible when you have monsters with a high chance of dodging attacks.

The price to rent Deepswimmer varies a lot and if you are lucky you can rent it at maximum level for a low price like in the image above where the Lir Deepswimmer level is priced at 19.57 DEC per day. I have found it for better prices but it is not a bad price for a useful summoner.

Now that I know more about other monsters in Splinterlands I have a lot of strategies that I will use next season and I hope to finally be able to reach the Champion 1 league.
