Increasing my chances of dodging with the "What Doesn't Kill You" Rule

Testing new strategies in Splinterlands has been my fun lately, that and also testing the game Soulkeep which I didn't know about and started playing yesterday, December 10th.

For today's post, which will also be my entry for the Splinterlands Social Media Challenge, I will show one of the strategies that I have used recently in my battles, in fact it is not a strategy that I use very often and the reason I used it was because of the battle ruleset, so come learn a little more about this strategy and I hope you like it.

Link to the Game

The battle in the image will be the one that I will use as an example for my strategy and as you can see there are 3 rules in the battle which are Shades of Gray, What Doesn't Kill You and Unprotected.

  • The main reason I used my strategy was the "What Doesn't Kill You" rule, but I'll talk about all 3.

Shades of Gray - In this battle rule, players can only use monsters from the neutral deck in battle.

What Doesn't Kill You - In this rule, all monsters will receive the ability Enrage, which means that when they don't have full health, they will gain +50% melee attack and +50% speed.

Unprotected - In this rule, no monster will have armor.

For my strategy to work, I'll need 1 of my monsters to have the ability Enrage, but even without this ability, it's still a good strategy. The monster I'm talking about is the Coeurl Lurker, a legendary monster from the neutral deck that has a high chance of dodging attacks. Let's talk a little about it.

The image above shows the overview of the monster Coeurl Lurker, its mana cost is 11, its attack type is melee and it has 4 abilities in total.

Taunt - This ability will make the Coeurl Lurker the main target of my opponent's attacks regardless of the position he is in.

Dodge - This ability will give the Coeurl Lurker +25% chance to dodge melee and ranged attacks.

Phase - This ability will make the Coeurl Lurker able to dodge magic attacks and the +25% from the Dodge ability will also be applied to magic attacks.

Thorns - This ability will make the Coeurl Lurker deal 2 physical damage to the melee monster that hits him with an attack.

In my battle, I used Coeurl Lurker at level 3 because it would be enough to put my strategy into practice. In fact, even at level 2, it would still be useful in my strategy.

My strategy is to increase Coeurl Lurker's speed as much as possible so that he can dodge my opponent's attacks. Since he will be the main target of the attacks, the more he dodges the attacks, the greater my advantage in the battle will be because my other monsters will be safe. To ensure this, I increased his speed through 2 monsters, 1 summoner and the "What Doesn't Kill You" rule.

The 2 monsters that I used to increase not only Coeurl Lurker's speed but also all my monsters were Spirit Miner and Supply Runner. Both have the Swiftness ability, which means that they will increase my monsters' speed by +1 each, that is, +2 speed for all my monsters.

The summoner I used was Kelya Frendul and she will also increase the speed of my monsters by +1, but she won't be able to grant them armor because of the Unprotected rule.

And the "What Doesn't Kill You" rule will grant the ability Enrage to all my monsters and this includes the Coeurl Lurker, so he will gain +50% speed when he doesn't have full health. The +50% melee attack gain won't be useful to him because in the position he's in, he won't be able to attack, his only goal in this battle is to dodge my opponent's attacks.

Another important part of my strategy was the ability Blind that the Spirit Miner monster grants to my opponent's monsters and it increases their chances of missing their attack by +15%, so the Coeurl Lurker will have more chances of dodging their attacks.

After all my strategy is ready, all you need to do is watch the show that Coeurl Lurker puts on, dodging several attacks while my monsters mercilessly attack my opponent's monsters.

The only problem I faced in this battle was that Coeurl Lurker got poisoned, if it weren't for that he wouldn't have been defeated since during the entire battle he only received 1 attack.
