The Need To Draw a Line and Say NO

(edited)

Hi Friends,

“The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything,” that's a famous quote by renowned businessman, investor and philanthropist.

Being a family member, being an employee or whatever we are, we always face situations where, we need to say yes although we don't want to in order to fulfil our duties or in order to not to disappoint someone.

We always think that, the other person we are talking to, might feel bad or we might face the wrath of the boss if we say, we might face the heat of family if I reject something or there are many such situations which forces us NOT to say no and we get into pressure ourselves and that might result in some adverse effect on our health or body.

So, how do we manage this and still don't get into a situation of not disappointing the other person?

Let's see some of the main reasons about this and how we can try to get rid of those and lead a better life.

Saying No:

Set Boundary on the work/request:

We know we might see some adverse effect of saying NO, but it's always better we set boundary on something which serves as a border for stop saying Yes and a NO is the result in order to reduce pressurizing ourselves.

We just need to keep in mind that, we can't make everyone happy with our decisions and we need to have a check on this and take a call on saying NO, no matter what the result will be.

Keep a check on self respect:

We get into the tricky situation of forcing ourselves to say yes with family members or boss as we feel it will make the family member feel bad or boss might feel bad and it will result in something which we don't want to into.

But, we must learn to giving value to ourselves no matter what the family member or boss might feel. It's high time we give ourselves priority than always prioritizing other's priorities.

Express in a effective way:

It's always essential that, we are polite and being respectful when we say NO in order to convince/make the other person understands us and doesn't get into a confusion state when we have to say no to someone.

If we are confident in explaining the situation and ensure that other person understand the reason behind we saying no, it will always become an easy task for other person to understand and agree to the situation.

Keep prioritizing the things and reject the low priority Ones:

If we have say 6 tasks to be completed and we have time to complete 4 tasks only, then it's always better we prioritize the activates and take call on which are feasible Ones and which aren't and we need to convey the same to the requestor with low priority Ones in order to not make the other person wait and keep ourselves from pressurizing self.

Take time and use a gentle way:

It's always better to take time to asses the situation on our commitments and priorities before saying no in a hurry and also we need to have a gentle tone when we explain the situation which makes us to say no and we have more chances of an understanding from others.

Preparing self for revolt/pushback:

We might be polite or considered to say no after thinking about the situation or priorities, but, we might get into a pushback from the other person and it's always wise to be prepared for that before we actually say no.

The Benefits of saying NO:

Source

We know it is not easy at all to say NO as we might face rejection, demotion, reject from family or company or boss or it might be from someone we like very much. But saying no is essential to create a healthy environment to ourselves and there are many benefits.

Saying no will makes us stress free, lets us to focus on priorities we have in hand, taking care of our own time, and not to forget that, the other person will actually start liking us for being frank and to the point and may give him/her the opportunity to get their work in a timely manner from someone else instead of waiting for us to finish our other priorities and then finish this work which we rejected.

The art of saying no is essential for us balance our work and life and leads us a happy and healthy life and we can give attention to maintaining our relationships and achieve more success.

The own self assessment of the tasks, prioritizing them, assessing them on what's best for us and for the other persons will give us a hint on to what we need to accept and what we need to reject and that rejection with a polite and meaningful explanation of the situation will lead to a happy ending without breaking much hearts, but there might be few broken ones in reality, but that's is part of the life in the best interest of our own health, family, respect and all and should value more than having a hapless situation of completing more than we are capable of and stressing ourselves.

Thanks and it's a very broad topic to write about the are of saying no.
