Un paseo por el centro histórico de Andorra la Vella // A walk through the historic centre of Andorra la Vella

Hola querido hiver.

Hi, dear hiver.

To combat the cloudy and unpleasant day we have today in Zaragoza, I have travelled virtually to last summer when I was on vacation in the Principality of Andorra. I felt like feeling the sun's rays again that made us sweat that day.

Rays that fell on the lead when we took this walk, because it was noon. I had proposed myself to photograph the Church of San Esteban in Andorra la Vella, a 12th century Romanesque temple that has been modified.

The church is next to a promenade full of vegetation. The mountains in the background complete a postcard-worthy image.

The day we were there, the proclamation of the local festivities was held. Around the church there were craft stalls and we were snooping among themselves when we heard music that attracted us...

Crossing the catwalk opened an esplanade. An orchestra was playing in a music kiosk. The rhythm was familiar, because it was a sardana. It is a typical dance of the area that is danced in circles.

There wasn't too much animation, this was the only group that danced. When the song ended, we returned to the church. I was afraid that it would not be possible to enter because it was a holiday.

Luckily I was wrong and we found the door open. Access is from the back and going up a short but steep slope.

Of the cover, the small protective roof of the door and the painting on it, which represents the martyrdom of St. Stephen who died stoned, are striking.

The interior surprises for its simplicity but it is beautiful. The strength of light, which used to make us warm, now became bright colours that gave the atmosphere a welcoming touch.

On one side is the chapel that preserves the flavour of authentic Romanesque with the stone in sight. This is what the whole church should look like in its beginnings.

When I left, I stopped to photograph a couple of forging elements. We were in a land where iron was an economic engine in the past and that is reflected in its architecture. For me it's an art and I really enjoy seeing these details.

I end with a couple of images that I captured back to the car, samples of the civilian constructions of the wealthy class.

Until the next post. In the meantime, take care!

Wow, what textures, what frescoes, what wrought iron, simply beautiful details that are sometimes unrepeatable. I love these walks, I don't get hot at all. A hug. @palomap3

Abrazos.

😂 I'm telling you that you would have warmed up well if you had walked with us. It was a relief to spend some time in the church, in addition to seeing her we were able to relieve ourselves a little of the heat to be able to return to the car. To enjoy sometimes you have to suffer, how ironic, hehe. Hugs.

How beautiful it is! The blue sky was just the perfect background for your photos, they are all marvellous. Lucky you that the church was open and lucky we too, so we can see its simple but pretty interior, with the organ pipes 😍

Fingers crossed the weather improves in Aragón hahaha, I saw it will rain for the weekend 😭

I hope the weather gets nice for the weekend, fingers crossed!!
I love Andorra, the mountains, the sky, the villages, the fresh air there on summer nights, everything!
The church is a little jewel and was a salvation for the midday heat.

One day, with @ph1102 we also have to go to Andorra 😇

Me reí con lo de discreta 😅

Buenas noches, Paloma!!

I don't have a habit of going to mass, although I could almost officiate one. 🤣 My parents are very religious and I have attended hundreds of them.
This church is simple for what I usually visit, but it also has its charm. Especially when you enjoy it while on vacation. 😁
Andorra is a country that is about 300 km from Zaragoza:
