Un paseo por el centro de Vinaroz, España // A walk through the centre of Vinaroz, Spain

Hola querido hiver.

Hi, dear hiver.

The coastal town of Vinaroz was our centre of operations during our last holiday. As the weather was not favourable to enjoy the beach, cultural plans were the best option, so one morning we took a nice walk through the old town.

The building you see in the two photographs above is the fortress church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. The simplicity of its exterior walls conceals a beautiful interior for which I will dedicate a full post later on. The paintings that pretend to be architectural constructions are striking.

At its feet runs the main road that linked Barcelona with Valencia, a detail that we guessed because they have kept one of the signs that indicated it.

This bench under a bus shelter caught my eye because of its colourful design and reminded me of the ones in Gaudí's Park Güell. It is right on the pavement in front of the church.

If we go round the church we find this lonely alley, which I wouldn't dare go down at night. Imagine coming across this brotherhood and his hood in the shadows - what a fright!

The monument reminds us of the importance of Holy Week in the town, representing its past, present and future. The life-size sculpture was made by the sculptor Jorge Diez Fernández and inaugurated in 2013. (Data obtained from a plaque attached to it)

Turning right, we reach the square with the main entrance to the church and its façade. In front of it is the Town Hall, built in the 18th century and of which only a couple of coats of arms stand out.

When we look to the left our eyes are drawn to the Casa Ángel Giner, a modernist building that has preserved its original structure and which houses a fashion shop.

Our instinct leads us to follow the street ahead. This is the main shopping street in the town. Its activity is enhanced by the fact that it is a pedestrian street, ideal for strolling around window shopping. A few dozen metres further on we find a street on the left where we see an original house.

The Calle Mayor leads to the Plaza de San Agustín, the central part of which is full of terraces where you can sit and have a drink and fulfil a very Spanish task: see and be seen. The shelter of the surrounding buildings was perfect on that windy morning.

On the left we can see the local Auditorium which uses what was once the church of the Convent of San Telmo. This was located on the next site, now occupied by the Municipal Market. By the way, if you happen to land there one day, the star product of Vinaroz is prawns. Cooler, just take them yourself.

And as in all coastal places, the main meeting place is the Paseo Marítimo, which can be accessed directly from the square. In this part I missed more shade, I would imagine that in summer they add awnings to that metal structure, although there was no seating underneath.

It's funny to find yourself in the middle of a school there. If I had had to study there I'm sure I wouldn't have passed anything. Who would want to gather with the sea as a backdrop behind the window panes?

On the other side of the school there are more shady areas and the promenade stretches until it almost disappears into the horizon. The views of the deserted beach did not detract from its beauty. I leave you with them for you to enjoy them as much as you like and I bid you farewell.

Until the next post. In the meantime, take care!

Every one of your photographs is beautiful and you have presented this street beautifully here. But the photograph of 2 trees standing on the beach with a hut in between is my favorite. One must have expertise in photography to capture such natural photographs. @palomap3
