Synopsis

Strange weather phenomena, a gigantic meteor shower...
Some of these meteorites accelerate or slow down... Which can only mean one thing: they are being piloted...
And very quickly, enormous mechanical tripods emerge from the meteors to attack anything that moves, following a very precise plan of attack, but what is it? How can we survive...

Casting

Two or three well-known names, in very minor roles, albeit important ones...
The actors who play active roles perform quite well, except for Ice Cube, who, in my opinion, is more than terrible.

My opinion

The synopsis sounds interesting, doesn't it? That's why I wanted to see it, knowing that I've seen other interpretations of HG Wells' major work.

The following contains spoilers, to save you from watching what I consider to be an interstellar flop. Don't read on if you want to form your own opinion, and then come back to comment with your thoughts.

Forget everything you've heard about the original War of the Worlds.
Here, we're talking about alien attacks, tripods, and their famous foghorns, but any comparison to the original work ends there, because we won't be talking about colonial excesses...
Nor will we be talking about survival itself, as in the version with Tom Cruise...

Here we're going to talk about the relationship between humans and private data... And it's just done any old way...
It's almost an insult to the subject matter...

Basically, aliens come to attack us to feed on our data, which is already absurd in itself... Data is just a series of 0s and 1s stored on disks, according to a coding system that is unique to us.

But let's ignore that detail and imagine that it's credible.
The aliens, tiny hybrid nanorobots, both living beings and machines, literally eat our data, which disappears after being consumed...
These intelligences could have duplicated it first in order to feed on it indefinitely, but no...
The film shows the disappearance of Facebook to emphasize the destruction of what has been consumed...

But this is not shown directly from the outset; we are first shown coordinated attacks on data centers that the tripods destroy... Instead of feeding on them, which would have had the same effect, go figure.

Note: this part of the film is "well done".

We later learn that this attack is actually a diversion to reach a top-secret global data collection center (Goliath). This center is very difficult to access because it is underground and completely isolated, off the grid ... really?
Off the grid, you have to be brave to imply that... It makes you wonder how Goliath captured the information it contains... Anyway... Let's move on!

There are other glaring errors, such as the fact that despite the disappearance of data, websites, and therefore the internet, the “hero” Ice Cube continues to communicate with the other characters from his bunker without any problems, even though the world's armies are on their knees...
Or that a piece of tape can stop major bleeding...
Or that amazon.com is still accepting orders to launch a delivery drone, even though the internet no longer exists...

You will have understood that I did not appreciate this film, even if the special effects of the tripods are not bad, without being exceptional (problem of reaction speed at certain moments)...
This film is an accumulation of continuous nonsense that prevents you from immersing yourself in the action.
The choice to put the action entirely in the third person does not help either, never an actor, always a spectator.

There is a reference to Anonymous, but again, it is poorly handled, as is the bunker hero's daughter's innate talent for managing ultra-confidential programs, a true expert at, as she herself says, her very first use of the tool.
All of this on a network that is supposed to have been destroyed, need I remind you 😉 ...

1/10 for the effects, okay 3/10 for some of the actors, even if you wonder why they signed on, the paycheck, I suppose ...

Synopsis

Des phénomènes météo étranges, une pluie de météorites gigantesque...
Ces météorites accélèrent ou freinent pour certaines .... Ce qui ne peux signifier qu'une seule chose, elles sont pilotées...
Et très vite, d'énormes tripodes mécaniques sortent des météores pour attaquer tout ce qui bouge, selon un plan d'attaque très précis, mais lequel est-ce ? Comment y survivre ...

Distribution

Deux ou trois noms connus, pour des rôles très secondaires, même si importants...
Les acteurs qui ont un rôle actif jouent plutôt bien, ignorons Ice-Cube qui est, selon moi, plus que mauvais.

Mon avis

Il à l'air sympa le synopsis, n,'est-ce pas ? C'est pour cela que j'ai voulu le voir, sachant que j'ai vu d'autres interprétations de l’œuvre majeure de HG Wells

Ce qui suit contient des spoilers, pour vous éviter de regarder ce que je considère comme un navet intersidéral. Ne lisez pas la suite si vous désirez faire votre propre opinion, et revenez ensuite pour commenter avec votre avis.

Oubliez tout ce que vous avez entendu sur l'original de la guerre des Mondes.
Ici, on parle d'attaque extra-terrestres, de tripodes, et de leur fameux cornes de brumes, mais toute comparaison à l’œuvre originale s'arrête là, car on ne parlera pas des dérives coloniales ...
On ne parlera pas non plus de la survie proprement dite comme dans la version avec Tom Cruise...

Ici on va parle de la relation Homme-Données privées ... Et c'est juste fait n'importe comment...
C'est presque une insulte au sujet traité ...

En gros, les extra-terrestres viennent nous attaquer pour se nourrir de nos données, ce qui est déjà une absurdité en soi... Les données n'étant qu'une série de 0 et 1 stockés sur des disques, selon un codage qui nous est propre.

Mais ignorons ce détail, et imaginons que ce soit crédible.
Les extraterrestres, de minuscules nanorobots hybrides, à la fois vivants et machines, mangent, littéralement nos données, ces dernières disparaissent après avoir été consommées...
Ces intelligences auraient pu les dupliquer d'abord pour s'en nourrir à l'infini, mais non...
Le film montre jusqu'à la disparition de Facebook pour bien insister sur la destruction de ce qui a été consommé ...

Mais ce n'est pas directement montré d'entrée de jeu, on nous laisse d'abord voir des attaques coordonnées vers des centres de données que les tripodes détruisent ... Au lieu de s'en nourrir ce qui aurait eu le même effet, allez comprendre.

Note: cette partie du film est plutôt réussie.

On apprendra plus tard que cette attaque est en réalité une diversion pour atteindre un centre de collecte de données globales (Goliath) ultra secret, ce centre est très difficile d'accès car il est sous terre et complètement isolé, hors réseau ... vraiment?
Hors réseau, il fallait oser ... à se demander comment Goliath a capté les informations qu'il contient du coup... Soit... Passons!

Des erreurs affligeantes, vous en aurez d'autres, comme le fait que malgré la disparition des données , des sites et donc d'internet, le "héros" Ice Cube continue, sans soucis à communiquer avec les autres protagonistes depuis son bunker, alors que les armées du monde sont à genoux...
Ou qu'un bout de ruban adhésif arrête une hémorragie majeure ...
Ou que amazon.com accepte encore des commandes pour lancer l'activation d'un drone de livraison, alors qu'Internet n'existe plus...

Vous aurez compris que je n'ai pas apprécié ce film, même si les effets spéciaux des tripodes ne sont pas mauvais, sans êtres exceptionnels (problème de vitesse de réaction à certains moments)...
Ce filme est une accumulation de non-sens continu qui empêche de se plonger dans l'action.
Le choix de mettre l'action entièrement à la troisième personne n'aide pas non plus, jamais acteur, toujours spectateur.

Il y a un rappel aux Anonymous, mais là aussi très mal géré, tout comme des talents innés de gestion de programmes ultra confidentiels par la fille du héros du bunker, une véritable experte à, comme elle le dit elle-même, sa toute première utilisation de l'outil.
Le tout sur un réseau qui est censé avoir été détruit, dois-je le rappeler 😉 ...

1/10 pour les effets, allez 3/10 pour certains acteurs, même si on se demande pourquoi ils ont signés, le cachet, je suppose ...
