I have always found tunnels fascinating subjects for black and white photography. I like the way how the lines of a tunnel create depth.
During a recent walk near my workplace, I came across several tunnels covered in striking graffiti art. The combination of concrete structures and expressive drawings immediately caught my attention. It inspired me to dive into my photo archive and revisit older images of tunnels and converting them to black and white.
The result is a small collection of tunnel photograph.
This photo was taken inside the Maastunnel in Rotterdam. It is a tunnel dedicated for cyclists.
It runs beneath the river Maas and connects the north and south of the city. The tunnel is 1.373 meter long. 587 meters of the tunnel are under the water.
The white tiles and black tarmac made it perfect to convert into a monochrome shot.

Another cyclist tunnel in the neighborhood. This one has a lot of grafitti.

The entrance under a train tunnel with beautiful grafitti.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on these images. Feel free to share your perspective in the comments.
