Some More Fun With LEGOs From Thrift Stores in Orange County

Today I felt like a departure from the usual routine in my posts here on Hive. A hobby I have picked up over the last couple of years has been buying and selling old toys I pick up in thrift shops. My favorites are LEGOs mainly because I know a lot about them so they are almost always a safe bet. Every now and again I'll try some other things just to take a shot in the dark.

While I was at a local thrift store this past week I found some LEGO mini-figures. So I bought the lot of them and also some other small collectible toys I wasn't familiar with in the slightest. One of those shots in the dark. First off I will share some of the Legos I found because they are always a lot of fun. Most of them were Star Wars which makes them an even better bet because they sell pretty quickly.

Here are just a bunch of the first few I pulled out, a nice little selection although one Yoda is missing his hand. Usually a sure sign that his arm is badly cracked, definitely decreases the value right there. But lets' have look at a few:

I mentioned the shot is the dark, these are some of those, called Power Gogo's Crazy Bones. There was was a container with all sorts of them and cards. From what I've seen they are collectible so I might make some money. Then again I only paid about $10 for a lot of over 100 along with some playing cards.

First up we have a Star Wars classic Han Solo. But after researching he has the wrong legs attached. Those came from some LEGO bikers, so I'll have to find the correct part before I can try to make some money off of him. You win some, you lose some!

This one was interesting to find, Luke Skywalker with a medal around his neck from the first movie, A New Hope. He should sell well, it came from a ceremony set from what I can figure out. Should sell for at least $6.

Then another Han Solo also with a medal from the same set. This one goes for around $10. So I am already in the money since I paid $15 for the bunch!

Now on these I got really lucky! Ewoks from Return Of The Jedi, from a specific older set and they price for over $10 a piece up to $20! My only complaint is that in the movie the Ewoks were cute, not so much on the LEGO models...

Wicket, this one I recognize the name but it's been so many years since I saw the movie I don't much remember him.

Paploo, I don't remember much about this particular Ewok.

Chief Chirpa, I don't recall much about this guy...

Nute Gunway I believe is from The Phantom Menace. He sadly has some cracks making him worth less, I hope to get maybe four dollars out of him...

Now Chewbacca here just looks ugly, Not even black dot's for eyes.... I haven't looked this one up yet but should be worth something!

And a Gungan warrior also from the Phantom menace, these usually bring in around $14. I was lucky that his weapon and shield came in the bad that I bought!

Last but not least, Yoda. I'll have to retake the pictures though of a dark gray background. He usually sells for over ten dollars depending on the model. The Yoda without the hand I'll have to find a replacement, but the arm crack will reduce it's value severely.

So yes there is a lot of money in LEGOs if you can find the right characters in decent condition. When I go to thrift stores I carry a magnifying loop in case I find a silver coin they have for sale but it also works well to find cracks and damage on LEGOs if you're lucky enough to find any. Lately Goodwill has been a bust for LEGOs so I've been looking more in private thrift stores nearby here in Orange County. Sometimes you just get lucky!

I'll have to do a post dedicated to the Power Gogo's once I figure out more about them! They're in great shape and if I can get at least a couple bucks for each one I'll make some money They are a gamble though, it's possible that no one will know what they even are and no one will even bother to buy them. You have to take risks sometimes in life just like you do every time you by crypto!

That will just about do it for my LEGOs of the day. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of these little toys, they are a pain to photograph and crop. Some I've been putting up for sale as I went along writing here today. I do find that photographing them on LEGO plates make it look a little more presentable to buyers, just a trick I've picked up over the last couple years.

Have a great day and thank you so much to all of you for all of your support!

Sounds like you found a very good niche market with Legos!👍
It’s amazing what you can find at some of these thrift stores, you just need to be a little bit lucky and at the right place at the right time!👍😊

That's right, I got lucky! The people who do best are the daily shoppers who go from one shop to another the next day. Here you can do that easily, but most places that's not a realistic option!

Before my youngest son got married, he used to go from shop the shop and did very well!😊
The bargains are out there, my friend !😇😊

Yoda is too cute! I wonder if those who keep LEGO boxes for selling later to pawn shops, I am sure they find it hard t part ways with these cute toys.

A lot come from parents just dropping off sets of old LEGOs from their kids to thrift stores not realizing they are sitting on a pile of cash...
!LOL

I was going to tell a joke about hominy.
But it was too corny.

Yes that is something I explore these days. I only have stamps of 90s haha but yeah this is something I wish to explore in upcoming times.

You're reaffirming that there's money to be money in LEGO, at first I didn't think so. I love the Yoda

They really are a gold mine. Parents donate them to thrift stores here a lot because the kids grow up and leave then in the closet somewhere! Yoda was a cool character, I agree. But Darth Vader made the best villian!

I’ve made a bunch of cash on legos…. Nice score

They really are a nice source of cash, thanks! The sad part is someone gave them to the thrift store seeing them as useless clutter!

Better for you then.

Man, I never realized there were so many figures like that. Shows how out of the loop I am. I finally bought some DUO today by the way.

Thanks for picking up some DUO! I meant to DM you that I had got you set up one curation and dividends yesterday but got distracted.

There are LEGO mini-figures for just about every major movie series ever made... They are making a limited run for the new Beetlejuice movie!

Very interesting about the Beetlejuice thing. I have never seen the original. Thanks for getting me set!

I always check Lego at flea markets but only find these dedicated sellers who have their whole stall filled with Lego. I reckon they are the first ones to check the other sellers and pick up on special Lego items.

But good catch there! Makes me want to go market hunting again. Sadly it's still 35 degrees Celsius so it will probably be end of September or something before we drive that way again. No fun in a black car in this heat lol

Mini-figures from big movie franchises are great if they come cheap. I especially like bulk items stuffed in a bag, even better unsorted ones the just get in to a thrift shop. Hopefully it starts to cool down soon!

Yeah that sounds great, I hope one day we find an amazing thrift store here too lol. Miss those days!
