A Small Surprise That Made Jeffria Smile

Sometimes, plans don't always happen the way we wanted. Last June was suppose to be Jeffria's 7th birthday celebration. We planned to let her play at the mall and eat outside together as a family. She was really excited because we don't usually go out like that.

But everything suddenly changed.

One week before her birthday, my husband suddenly had a very high blood pressure. It reached 190/160. He was shaking, but he still manage to bring himself to the clinic. I was really scared that something bad might happen to him. Thankfully, after checking him, the doctor said he was not having a heart attack.

That was a big relief for all of us.
Because of that, we decided not to continue the birthday celebration. Honestly, nobody was thinking about parties anymore. We were just thankful that my husband was safe.

Jeffria never complained. Instead, she only asked for one thing... a pair of pink roller skates.

A few days later, the parcel finally arrived. She was so excited while opening the package. Her smile was enough to erase all the sadness from the cancelled birthday. Seeing her so happy reminded me that children don't always need expensive celebrations. Sometimes one simple gift is already enough.

Her older sister, Katsuki, even looked at the roller skates and said, "It looks so cool to wear!" We all laugh because after trying it, we realized it only looks easy.Standing on it was already hard!

We decided to bring Jeffria to a wider place near the river where there were less people and more space to practice. At first she couldn't balance herself. She needed someone to hold her hands while taking small steps. She fell a few times but never cried. She just stood up again and tried one more time.

I was busy taking pictures while watching her. The weather was nice, the road was peaceful, and looking around I saw many beautiful houses. It made me stop for a while and think how blessed we still are. We may not have everything we want, but we have another day together as a family.

Maybe she didn't learn roller skating that day, but she learned something more important... never be afraid to try again.

And as her mother, seeing that smile on her face was already the best birthday gift for me too.
