Hello everyone!
Hope all are safe and well! πβ€π
It feels like a purple day in the kitchen. π€ You know those days when you suddenly crave something sweet and comforting? That was me thinking about ube and all the delicious treats that like maja blanca. Thereβs just something about that rich purple color and creamy flavor that makes everything feel extra special. ππ

The day before making ube majablanca, I found myself staring at the leftover rice in the pot, wondering what snack I could make without buying anything. I love moments like this when creativity comes from whatever is already available at home. Instead of cooking the usual fried rice or reheating leftovers, an idea popped into my head: Why not try making puto using leftover rice? And since I still had evaporated milk and ube condensed milk from my ice candy plans, it felt like the perfect time to experiment. π
It was my first time trying this, so I decided to make only a small batch. I didnβt want to waste ingredients in case it didnβt turn out well. I ground a little amount of rice in the food processor until it became smooth. Since it was only a small mixture, I didnβt use the whole can of milk. I just added two eggs, mixed everything well, and prepared it for steaming.
Hereβs the result of my homemade ube puto rice cake. π

Honestly, I think it would turn out even better if baked in an oven or an improvised oven. Steaming worked fine, but I feel like baking might give it a nicer texture. Still, for a first attempt, I was proud of it. And most importantly it was delicious! π Sometimes itβs not about perfection, but about trying something new and enjoying the process. π
Then yesterday, my craving changed. π This time, I was thinking about maja blanca but of course, with an ube twist! Good thing I still had leftover milk from the puto. I checked the pantry and found cornstarch and margarine. In our small store, I had peanuts and in the kitchen we had fresh coconut available. Everything I needed was already there. It felt like a sign. π
My mother helped me grate the coconut (thank you, nanay! π), and I prepared the coconut milk myself. I was the one who cooked the ube maja blanca from start to finish. Thereβs something so fulfilling about cooking from scratch especially when family helps in small ways. π
The most tiring part? The mixing! When maja blanca starts to thicken, you really need arm strength. My arms and shoulders felt the workout. π€ Itβs like going to the gym but in the kitchen! π

But all that effort is worth it when you finally see the mixture smooth and glossy, ready to set. And the best part of all? Tasting the finished product. That first bite is always the most satisfying. Creamy, sweet, with a hint of coconut and the rich flavor of ube, it was exactly what I was craving. ππ

What I love most about this experience is how one small leftover ingredient led to two different sweet treats. If I didnβt try making ube puto first, I wouldnβt have leftover milk to inspire my maja blanca the next day. Sometimes blessings come in simple forms even in leftovers. π
Staying in the kitchen means experimenting, tasting, and sometimes gaining a little extra weight. π€ Thereβs really no room for diet when homemade desserts are calling your name! But cooking makes me happy. It relaxes me. It reminds me that even simple ingredients can turn into something special with a little effort and love. π
Life doesnβt always have to be grand to be meaningful. Sometimes happiness is just a purple dessert, a shared moment with your mother, and the smell of something sweet cooking on the stove. π
Have a Blessed Friday everyone! ππππππ
