The Progressive Hilongos

Hilongos, Leyte is the next town after Hindang if you are coming from Baybay, Leyte. It is considered one of the more progressive municipalities in Leyte. Although it has not yet been officially declared a city, it has already experienced significant growth. Many large businesses from different cities have established their presence in Hilongos, contributing to its rapid development and economic progress.

Although our barangay belongs to the town of Hindang, we usually do our grocery shopping and marketing in Hilongos. Aside from the goods being more affordable there, there are also more options to choose from.

One of the businesses that has grown in Hilongos is Metro Supermarket. I used to see Metro Supermarket only in major cities, but now it has finally reached Hilongos. It’s one of the large grocery stores from Cebu City.

When I found out that Metro was opening a branch in Hilongos, I was quite happy because it offers a wider variety of products compared to smaller grocery stores.

Since I was young, there has already been a port in Hilongos. However, back then, it was still small and only one shipping company operated there. Now, the port has significantly expanded, and three shipping companies are operating. We no longer have difficulty traveling to Cebu since there are now many scheduled trips available. That is why we are very happy, especially since we frequently travel to Cebu, where we also have a house in Talisay, City.

There are also many small businesses in Hilongos because there are more buyers there compared to other towns. That is why small business owners prefer setting up in Hilongos, as they are able to attract more customers and generate better sales.

Although the flower shops in Hilongos are not that high-end or luxurious, we are still thankful that there is at least a place where we can buy flowers whenever we need them. We no longer have to travel to bigger cities just to look for flowers.

All in all, even though Hilongos is not a big city, it has grown a lot and now offers many options for shopping, traveling, and daily needs. It’s nice to have everything nearby, making life easier for families like ours.
