Separated, Yet United by Respect
Happy Monday Hivers!
I don't remember exactly when my mom and dad stopped being on good terms. All I know is that it has been a very long time since their relationship changed. We never really knew the reason why they separated, and we never asked. We believed that whatever happened between them was something personal, and we respected their privacy. As their children, all we could do was accept their decision and continue loving and respecting them both.
Despite being separated for many years, neither of them ever brought a new partner into our family home or introduced someone else as part of the household. They always made sure that our family remained free from unnecessary complications.
Even though they are no longer together, they continue to put their children first. Whenever we have family gatherings in Leyte, my dad still stays at our family home. There has never been any tension or conflict during those occasions. Instead, they treat each other with respect, creating a comfortable environment for all of us. Their ability to set aside the past for the sake of their children.
They don't really talk to each other when they meet, but whenever there's a family occasion, they are both there. Over the years, we have grown accustomed to this arrangement. It's simply the way things have been for a long time, and we have learned to accept it.
We no longer wish for them to get back together. Instead, we are grateful that they are both still present in our lives. No matter what happens, we know we can still turn to each of them whenever we need guidance, support, or someone to talk to. For us, that is more than enough.
Life doesn't always turn out the way we expect, but respect, understanding, and love for family can remain even after a relationship ends. Sometimes, being there for your children is the greatest expression of love, and that is something we will always be thankful for.
