Sending Him Off with Love and Prayers

Happy Saturday Hivers!

Time really flies so fast. Three weeks went by in the blink of an eye. It feels like it was only yesterday when my nephew arrived and surprised his dad on his 50th birthday.

Last Wednesday, we sent him off at the airport as he headed back to Canada with his cousin from his mother’s side of the family. This was one of the hardest parts because we may not get to see him in person again for several years. Although it’s much easier to stay connected nowadays because we can always video call, it still feels different when someone you love is far away. We’ll definitely miss having him around, but we’re grateful for the memories we made during the short time he was here.

His grandfather wasn’t able to come with us to the airport because he wasn’t feeling well, and my sister couldn’t make it either because she had a work commitment. Still, most of the family members made sure to be there to see him off at the airport. It was a simple but meaningful way of showing our love and support before he left.

We couldn’t help but laugh because he wouldn’t let his mom hug him while they were taking pictures, maybe because he didn’t want his mom to cry. But I could clearly see the sadness on his mom’s face. I guess that’s one of the hardest feelings for parents when their children have to leave and go far away. She was clearly emotional, but she did her best to hold back her tears and keep herself composed.

After we finished taking pictures, his cousin arrived at the airport as well. She would be traveling with him back to Canada, so they could make the journey together.

Before they checked in, my brother prayed over them first. This is something parents usually do whenever their children are about to leave, to pray for God’s guidance, protection, and good health throughout their journey. It may be a simple gesture, but it carries so much love and meaning, especially when sending a loved one far away.

In the end, saying goodbye was not easy, but we’re grateful for the time we had together. We’ll surely miss him, but we know he is going back with lots of memories and love from his family. Until we meet again!
