Happy Monday Hivers!
My mother and I went to Visayas State University, which was formerly known as VISCA. I actually already shared my story about that visit here before. But this time, I want to show their horticulture area, especially the section for flowers. They have a dedicated horticulture space for floral plants, as well as a separate area for fruit trees.
Entrance to the Horticulture Area
As we entered the area, we were greeted by the secreto de amor flowers. According to my mother, this flower is already quite old and rare nowadays. I could see the nostalgia in her eyes when she saw it. She immediately said, “Oh my, it’s been such a long time since I last saw this. This is an old flower." But honestly, it is a very beautiful flower, and it was my first time seeing one.

Then we also saw many different kinds of ornamentals. My eyes truly enjoyed the wide variety of plants, especially if you really love plants.

One of the nice things about their place is that they don’t have difficulty with water. Even though they have many plants that need watering, their water source is very close to the plants, which makes it more convenient to maintain them.

The Anthurium Flowers
When we checked the back area, we saw many anthuriums. They came in different colors, but not that many were blooming yet.

According to the caretaker, they had only recently been transferred to a new location, which is why some of the anthuriums had not fully bloomed. She explained that they are sensitive plants and do not like being disturbed too much, so they are still adjusting to their new environment.

But some of the anthuriums already looked beautiful, as they were starting to bloom profusely, competing with each other in a display of flowers.

The Orchids Section
Then I continued walking to the other side and saw a wide variety of orchids. There were some orchids that my mother really liked, but they weren’t for sale yet because they were still being propagated.

My mother was a little disappointed because one of the reasons she joined me on the VISCA/VSU visit was to buy plants. But she was happy to hear that there would be many displays during the first week of April for their anniversary. She immediately told me that we should come back then.

I don’t know if you feel the same, but seeing flowers really makes me happy. That’s exactly how I felt when I saw so many flowers, I was genuinely overjoyed.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
