It’s Me Time: Treating Myself

Happy Friday Hivers!

Since I moved back to Leyte, I’ve been staying at home so that I can accompany my mother. These days, I rarely go out alone anymore; most of the time, I go out with her. She is already elderly, so I make sure to be with her wherever she needs to go.

For most of my life, I have been living independently. I got used to being alone, and I was actually comfortable and happy with it. That’s why when I returned to Leyte, I felt a bit different and had to adjust again to this new routine.

I miss having “me time.” At home, I always have someone with me, and whenever I go out, I’m with my mom as well. Because of that, I find myself missing my old life when I had plenty of time for myself.

A few days ago, I decided to take some “me time” again.

My hair had grown quite long since my last haircut, which was about six months ago. My hair grows quite fast and is naturally thick, so when it gets long, it starts to feel heavy and uncomfortable, especially when I tie it up.

That’s why I decided to go to a salon for a haircut. One thing I don’t really like about visiting salons is the strong smell of hair chemicals, it can be so intense that it even makes my eyes sting. Still, the salon I chose was nice and clean, and the staff were very accommodating.

However, it might have been the strongest smell of hair treatment I’ve ever experienced in a salon, probably because someone was getting a rebonding treatment.

Anyway, the haircut itself went smoothly. The stylist followed exactly the simple straight style I wanted. I’ve never been into complicated hairstyles, so it was done quickly and without any hassle.

After my haircut, I started feeling hungry, so I went to a nearby fast food restaurant. It had actually been a few months since I last ate fast food, as I mostly eat home-cooked meals.

When I finally ate there, I didn’t feel too guilty since it’s something I only do occasionally. Of course, we all know that fast food isn’t exactly the healthiest option, but having it once in a while feels like a small treat and something I can enjoy without overthinking it.

That day felt like a simple but meaningful “me time” for me. From getting a fresh haircut to enjoying a quick fast food meal, it reminded me how important it is to pause and treat myself once in a while, especially after getting used to a routine where I’m almost always with someone.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
