Feeling Unwell Taught Me an Important Lesson

(edited)

Happy Friday Hivers!

This week, I wasn't productive at all. I spent most of my days at home, simply lying down and trying to rest. My body felt exhausted all the time, and everything seemed so gloomy. Still, I don't want to complain because I know this happened as a result of my own choices. It was a lesson that reminded me to take better care of my health.

I have known since college that whenever my acid reflux becomes severe, it can trigger vertigo. I'm fully aware of it. In fact, I know exactly which foods I should avoid because of my hyperacidity. However, because I lacked self-control, I ended up experiencing vertigo again.

Since I returned to Leyte last November, I hadn't experienced an attack of hyperacidity. Because of that, I became less mindful of what I was eating. I convinced myself that even if my hyperacidity flared up, it wouldn't be a big deal since I was just at home. Unfortunately, I was wrong. It's never something to take lightly. Last Saturday, my hyperacidity came back.

When I woke up on Saturday morning, I immediately realized something was wrong. As soon as I stood up, I struggled to keep my balance because the dizziness was so intense, it felt like the whole room was spinning. I sat down for a few minutes before trying to stand again. I managed to make my way to the kitchen, but I had to hold onto the cabinets and the table because I was still extremely dizzy.

I tried to act as if everything was normal because I didn't want my mom to worry. However, during breakfast, I couldn't even finish my meal. Even while sitting down, the dizziness became so severe that I had to keep holding onto the table for support.

At that moment, I told myself that this was the consequence of several months of eating too much sauce and constantly choosing sour, spicy, oily, and other acidic foods. I slowly made my way back to my room because the vertigo had become unbearable.

It eventually reached the point where I started vomiting, and the acid was so strong that my teeth became sensitive. That afternoon, my mom bought medicine for my hyperacidity. Although I've been taking it for several days now, I still experience occasional dizziness. Thankfully, it has become much milder than before.

I've really missed spending time in the garden. I haven't been able to go there for several days, and I miss my daily routine. One thing I'm especially grateful for is that, since yesterday, I've been able to walk around again without feeling extremely dizzy. For now, I only stay in our backyard, but at least it's a sign that I'm slowly recovering. The medication seems to be helping, and I'm thankful to see some progress.

I decided to post this photo as a reminder to myself. If I hadn't neglected my health, I would have been able to do the things I love and go to the places I wanted to visit. From now on, I promise to take better care of my health and stop taking it for granted. After all, if I don't take care of myself, I'm the one who will ultimately suffer the consequences.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
