Do You Have a Childhood Best Friend?

I can truly say that when it comes to friends, I am lucky. I may have a small circle, even since I was young, but all my close friends are genuine, friendships that have stood the test of time.

There’s one friend in particular whom I’ve known since childhood. We grew up together, and even now, we still keep in touch. We continue to show up for each other, especially during the important moments in our lives.

Do you also have a childhood best friend, someone you still communicate with and who remains present during your special occasions, even after all these years?

When you’ve been friends since childhood, you end up sharing so many funny memories especially from those carefree days when you were still kids, always finding something fun and crazy to do.

One of the funniest moments I’ll never forget was when we found a small boat tied near the shore. Out of curiosity, we untied it and hopped on, even though neither of us knew how to paddle. It was high tide, and before we knew it, we had drifted far out into the open sea. My mom was shouting in panic, and later, our neighbor saved us. Out of fear and worry, my mom ended up scolding and even hitting me.

That’s something quite common in Filipino households. When parents get overwhelmed with fear for their child’s safety, their way of showing it sometimes comes out as anger or punishment. But looking back, it’s actually a funny memory now, one that still makes me laugh every time I think about it.

That’s how we were as kids so curious, always exploring, and never really thinking about the consequences. We were both the type who loved adventure, not minding what could possibly go wrong, as long as we were having fun together.

Now, she is already a mother with a child, and we rarely see each other. But whenever we do, we still end up talking about all the silly and crazy things we did before.

Even though life has changed and we now have our own responsibilities, our friendship remains the same at heart. Some friendships may grow quieter over time, but the bond never really fades and that’s what makes them truly special.
