A Rose and a Sweet High School Memory

Happy Monday Hivers!

When we were in high school, the thing they call a “crush” was something that was almost impossible to avoid. You would always feel excited whenever it was time for class because it meant you might see your crush again. That was truly one of the most fun and memorable parts of being a high school student.

There were times when your eyes would accidentally meet, and your face would turn red from embarrassment, but at the same time, you felt that little thrill inside. And then there were moments when you were inside the classroom and your crush would pass by outside the door. Ah, those simple moments that made high school life special.

Whenever I think about high school, one thing I always remember is a rose. Yes, a rose, the flower.

This incident happened on our graduation day. Right after the ceremony, I immediately went home because that afternoon my classmates and I had planned to gather at one of our classmate’s houses for a small celebration.

I was surprised when a male classmate arrived at our house. He brought a rose, just a single stem with a flower. He didn’t hand it to me directly. Instead, he looked for a pot where he could plant it. While planting the rose, he said to me, “I’m planting this rose as a sign of my love for you.

I couldn’t help but laugh while he was doing it because he was known in our class as the joker.

Months passed, and my mother was amazed that the rose actually survived. Years later, it even bloomed.

Unfortunately, the plant eventually died after a strong typhoon.

Ten years later, that same classmate contacted me again. The very first thing he asked was, “How is the rose?” I couldn’t stop myself from laughing while reading his message.

High school really is different. It leaves us with so many memories that can still make us smile, even years later.

And sometimes, the simplest things—like a single rose, can quietly carry a memory that lasts a lifetime.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
