My staycation has partially begun, but the ladies left me we with a few days worth of housework to catch up on before I can relax to the max.
ย ย ย The ladies + Mey-Yii have arrived safely in Pursat, and I have been busy catching up on housework. They left in a hurry with plenty of dishes and laundry to do, and the house is in disarray, so between Hive work and housework, I've actually been pretty busy. One of the first things I noticed was Mey-Yii's snack wrapper carelessly tossed in front of the house. I've spent weeks trying to explain to her the difference between recycling, compost, and trash, but bad habits are hard to break I guess.
ย ย ย You should probably follow my wife's blog and ignore mine until they come home, I'm gonna have very little to post about other than curation work, housework, and rushed meals. My wife will likely have a lot of beautiful pics, so go visit @sreypov's blog, but if you're still here, let's keep going. I like a freshly made bed each day and to wash the sheets once a week, so that is a priority when I am bachelor paddin' it. I slept like a baby on and off yesterday, catching up on months of lost rest, didn't even make a post.
ย ย ย For the first time in many months, I opened my iPad and watched a movie while doing Hive work, something I could never do in a hectic house full of kids while being an involved dad. Even though I'm far too physically exhausted and overworked to have joined the wife and kids on their holiday, just not driving to school and working in the tuk-tuk 6 days a week is like a gift from the heavens.
ย ย ย In another day or two, the house will be super clean, and only then do I ever feel I can truly relax. As usual, my ASEAN Hive work goes on without stopping, but even the one-day break from my personal blog was a mini-vacation as well. Maybe when time is right, I'll spend a whole day in bed just watching movies interlaced with periodic swims in the river. There's no need to leave for a holiday because I live in a vacation destination after all.
It's a shame the ladies couldn't have pitched-in and completed [at least most of] the housework before they left for holiday. ๐ Maybe do a 'reward system' for Mey-Yii...? For every day you do not find a wrapper outside, she gets a point, and a point is removed for each day you find one. When she has enough points accumulated, you cook her a special treat (or some other reward). With an incentive like that, I'm sure MonkeyB & Srey-Yuu would help teach Mey-Yii, too!
If you ever run out of things to post about, let me know and I can make suggestions. Without even breaking a sweat, I thought of these ideas:
There's more where these came from, should you need more. Each bullet-point could be a separate blog, of course, so there's seven more blogs for you whenever you feel motivated to write them. Just keep these ideas tucked away in the back of your brain for when you might be in need of them. Let me know when you need more suggestions. ๐
Thank you for the suggestions, and most of your posting prompts remind me that I miss having unlimited data wi-fi because these would all be great 3Speak video posts. I often avoid topics that I can't easily produce some original images for, but all the subjects you've mentioned would be easy for me to write about.
Honestly, there are plenty of old images I could use to post about topics that you've mentioned, but I have a secret, I haven't organized my photos and folders for years, so it's really hard to find something quickly when I need it. I've been putting this off for far too long, because I know it would take a few days to complete, and I don't want to chip away at it slowly.
I will save these ideas no doubt, and I do need to come up with some motivational/incentive ideas for Mey-Yii. I can see there's a bright mind within, but it needs to be challenged to flourish, and right now her very limited attention span is the hardest thing to deal with. She's getting more and more used to conversation, but still doesn't chit-chat really, just asks yes/no questions. Growing up in this village is dysfunctional enough, but top it off with her troubled history, and she has the deck stacked against her.
Glad you took some rest already. Whilst I've been busy running around, and rushed home for my mom's birthday, at the same time busy preparing for a job interview, which is a big thing. (Part of the comment has been deleted as I thought I was half asleep and being an absolutely inconsiderate moron, apologize if you can read that idiotic comment)
Just Vacation AirBNB - your trusted Vege bed and breakfast vacation honeymoon suite with private river. Just call Justin.
Suddenly I have a promotion phrase for your Airbnb ๐คฃ
Job interview? Exciting stuff, I hope you get it regardless of the salary or circumstances. I sense you need come change in your work life, and even if it comes with a salary cut, it might be better overall for your mental health.
No worries at all Dave, I don't think you've ever left an idiotic comment, at least not one that I didn't enjoy ๐. The Airbnb seems like a much better idea, customers that make a booking will have already read the description and aim of our place, and things like taking your trash with you when you leave will be something people know long before they come here. The Cambodian customers never separate trash and recyclables, and even after an explanation of how to do it, they get upset as if it's just too much work.
The worst is they don't bother to separate organics from the trash too, so I have to dig through bones and rotten meat just to separate cans and bottles, something that repulses me a bit, and it stinks too. I think people that make online bookings would also be more likely to eat something we can cook versus bringing store-bought foods that leave behind a human-sized bag of styrofoam and plastic trash.
Completing all household chores that are usually done by girls is very boring, sweeping, washing dishes, cleaning the bed and also washing the sheets. I often do all of these things at home, because my wife from Monday to Friday works as a teacher at the Lhokseumawe Nation's Sukma School. So yeah I know it must be boring ๐คฃ
I will definitely keep your blog number one my brother, the reason is that I like the way you write jumping from one topic to another, and there is also a sense of humor, and the most important thing is that there is knowledge or lessons that I can take from your posts, an example of the story of Mey-Yii and your willingness to take the neighbor's children to school. And I can't get it in other people's posts ๐
Have a good rest, have a good rest my brother because as you said there's no need to leave for a holiday because I live in a vacation destination after all ๐
Haha, I am strange because I enjoy cleaning, cooking, and other housework, I think because I have lived alone for many years of my life. I think the thing I like the least is making the bed because I have to do some acrobatic moves, so my wife always makes me do the bed ๐.
I am honored at your reasons for enjoying my blog posts, that is my aim for each post even though sometimes the train goes off the rails. When I am here alone I worry about to go the river by myself because of potential dangers. I saw some tourists swimming nearby yesterday and took the opportunity to swim near them for safety, although they didn't know that ๐.
Ha ha ha.....
tiring work my friend hope you can enjoy it,sometimes we as men think homework is the most boring job,
I quite enjoy housework, especially cooking and cleaning but I don't get to do it as much as I'd like to because of Hive responsibilities and also my wife can't share the ASEAN Hive workload.
All work and no play makes Justin a dull boy
Hope you manage to relax a little, buddy
The fam has just arrived back home, but the staycation was well received, got lots of rest and along with lots of mixing slow work and play.

I'm glad you are getting a break :) Who is Mey-Yii???
This post has been manually curated by the VYB curation project
Cheers my friend, thanks for stopping by. Mey-Yii is our neighbor's granddaughter, but the grandma is the guardian because her mother abandoned her. The grandma also abandons her often for days at a time because of a gambling addiction. There's a nearby Chinese casino on the Thai border, and it has caused a lot of social decay because the locals aren't educated enough to avoid life traps and vices.
Mey-Yii stays at our house up to 6 nights a week, and she's quickly becoming like an adopted daughter. My blood boils when I think of the grandma, but these situations are always delicate in such a small village.
Wow... I wonder if there's any way Grandma might let you adopt her eventually??? It's sad that things are so messed up, but it looks like some blessings may come from an awful situation.
