This morning we had a mantis loitering on our front porch, but luckily it was a welcome photo opportunity while Srey-Yuu was doing her hair.
Last night I saw that @sreypov just finished a batch of "num ko," and she was letting it cool down by the window before placing in the fridge. It is basically a cake from rice flour, palm sugar, and coconut milk, and covered with deep-fried lentils.
After picking up the @kidsisters from school, we came home, they finished their homework, and the asked for 15 minutes of screen time in watching area. For some reason there is a really strong cellular signal in the doorway, so that is where they go when they need to use some serious data.
Even though it's no the rainy season, it seems to rain here almost every day. I think it could be weather from the west side of the mountains, which contains a really thin strip of Thailand that occupies the coast. Most of Cambodia is sheltered from extreme weather because of its geography, but here in Steung Kach things are very extreme, so extreme that Puu Mab has to hide under the roof every few minutes because of the sudden downpours.
Every night our porch light attracts various insects, and usually in the morning there are remnants of the predators who eat these creatures. This morning there was a mantis on the mirror, and it was a perfect photo to take while Srey-Yuu was preparing her hair. That's all for now, I'm still limping by because my PC is dead.
The name of the dish "num ko" sounds good, but the names of the ingredients make it clear that the food will taste good. I like the rainy weather, but the view in front of the mirror was funny, it seemed like the insects were looking at themselves in the mirror too ha ha ha
Treats like this are very delicious, rice flour is so sticky and chewy, but I also like South Asian style desserts made from besan, cashews, dates, etc. One my family's favorites is carrot halwa. I always think mantises look like aliens, especially their heads, and their eyes are so big, I think they must see very well 👽.
Your daughter is already a teenager and on the way to adulthood, I think she is very beautiful with her long hair neatly done. And I hope that the electrical problems that occur in your area will return to normal soon my friend
Only a little more than a month and she'll officially be 13 years old. She's turning into a young woman too fast for this overprotective father. When I get a PC replacement I think I'll add a battery UPS as a backup and safety measure because the power strip isn't enough.
the grasshopper seems friendly with srey-yuu, hopefully srey-yuu can go to school smoothly and everything will be made easy.
And sometimes we even get strange insects in the tuk-tuk with us on the way to school.
When you live close to nature, you tend to attract a lot of insects. Insects are ok, hopefully your area do not have a lot of snakes.
There is a big long snake on our property that calls this place home. It's been spotted a few times, but nobody has seen the head yet. I hope and pray that it's not a cobra or viper of any kind.
What does num ko taste like?
It's very rich, I can only a little square. The texture is like a dumpling, and also a little bit like fudge brownies too. Coconut and fried lentils are the main flavors I can taste in it.
Here, whatever visitor came, we have it in this movie 😂
Still can't believe I haven't sit down to watch the movie with my daughters yet. I think they have seen the first one, and I assume there is/are sequels.
