The latest news from Pramaoy, Cambodia, is that Srey-Yuu has withdrawn a total of around 150 HBD from her @kidsisters Hive account.
Β Β Β On second thought, there is so much more going on in Pramaoy lately that I'd like to share with you all. After 4+ years of Hivin' I'm finally starting to live solely from HBD earnings for now, along with my wife @sreypov's HBD too. This new financial independence is what allows us to live in a remote location like Pramaoy, even if the electricity is not so frequent here.
Β Β Β These power outages are just opportunities for dad/daughter playtime, and it's now to the point where when then's an outage, Monkey-B immediately goes for the Jenga box, and I acquiesce.
Β Β Β @sreypov recently received some sarongs she purchased from an online business. The price was almost too good to be true, and in some sense it was. The seams were all sewn very crooked, but that was no problem for our intended use.
Β Β Β She had planned on using the material to sew skirts for Monkey-B and Srey-Yuu, having already purchased some elastic for this purpose. We all watched anxiously to see how the final product would turn out.
Β Β Β Surprise! Surprise! Our expert seamstress nailed it, and Monkey-B happily modeled her new skirt from on top of the bed. Blue was a pretty good choice too, it won't show all the stains from the fruit peels and juices she engages with every day.
Β Β Β We're about to head back to the top-secret area where we found some land for sell. The little freshwater mountain creek was featured in many of my family's posts over the last week, and that is what makes this land so special. We've already called ahead, made friends, and have arranged to camp in the area. I am busy packing the bags, no journey complete without a good machete and our trusty new portable power station.
Β Β Β Srey-Yuu's Hive station has been a hot mess for far too long, so I have been trying to think of what item in our house I could repurpose into a book shelf to help her manage her side of the desk. Suddenly a brilliant idea materialized, and I grabbed the bread knife and the sesame milk bottle box.
Β Β Β With a little scotch tape for reinforcement, and a little handiwork with the bread knife, I created this super-duper sesame milk book shelf/case thingamabob. I was pretty proud of myself, and when Monkey-B saw it, she simply stated that "it was adequate" in Khmer, apparently not very impressed.
Β Β Β We finally have @sreypov's Binance.com account all set up, KYC verified, and we've successfully used Binance P2P to sell BUSD for USD wired into her Cambodian bank account. I have all but given up on Binance.US and/or Binance.com KYC verification, so for now we trust in Pov to help the whole family cash out a little now and then.
Β Β Β Our current mission is to live solely from our HBD earnings (while keeping our HP moving upward), and after two withdrawals, Srey-Yuu has taken out around $150 of her HBD, and we have given it to her without any guidelines at all, an experiment of sorts. Will she use it for good or for evil? So far she hasn't spent much, and she's voluntarily given her mother and I $12.50, pretty generous if you ask me.
Ahhhh. I still have a piece of sarong in my drawer, got it couple of years back when I was in Bali Island. Have never use it after attending an event. I know it can be a casual wear, but it's just too warm to have more than 1 piece covering the lower body. I already have a trunk and I'm pretty happy wearing it. I know I can choose to take out my trunk and replace it with the sarong, but I'm just not felling too secure having my lil-john swinging freestyle down there. It's great that your wifey got to sew to a skirt. I imagine the next project, she can probably make you a pair of stupid pants π
This reminds me of a funny Cambodian joke I heard years ago about a man climbing the coconut tree wearing nothing but a krama (Cambodian sarong), and the villagers are waiting under the tree, etc. They look up but they don't like what they see, the "banana" as it's called in Cambodia.
That is just amazing! 150 HBD is nothing to scoff at, and I can only imagine that in Cambodia it goes a long way... much longer at least than in the States. And for a 12-year-old, especially. But the best part of this whole story, in my opinion, is that it is not a gift or an allowance. It's her money, that she worked for, generated on the blockchain, and is now happy to spend as she sees fit. Whether for good or evil, leaving it up to her is going to contribute to future financial decisions. Congratulations!
BTW, the fact that the whole family is living off of HIVE earnings, and about to buy land, makes it even more exciting!
Haha, the first thing she said to herself when I gave her $110, and then she combined it with her roughly $40 was, "I could buy three bicycles with this money." I think she understands the effort she put in to earn this money, so I hope she'll spend it wisely. An adult working full time around these parts can barely surpass $200 a month, so she's doing quite well for 12 years old.
I could never get her to hustle up money like I did when I was a kid, going door to door offering to wash cars, mow grass, clean gutters, etc., but she's still got some social phobias I want her to overcome. The dominance of screens in our lives now is partly responsible for the new generation not knowing how to socialize like we did.
I like the thought of a new HBD-based life, and will continue powering up HIVE until I find that medium between long-term passive income and the risk of having my 95% of my life savings in the Hive-o-sphere. I guess time will tell how the experiment goes, but it's not like there are tempting places like shopping malls or movie theaters here in the wild west of the Cardamom Mountains.
When we imagine various businesses for the new potential land, almost none of them compare to us working full-time on Hive. The only thing I can imagine is to open up an afterschool program to teach computer literacy, English, cryptocurrency, photography, and Hive-blogging.
Three bicycles, hahahaha, I love it! Did you ask her how many bikes she can ride at the same time? π But I'm sure eventually she'll figure out what she wants to spend her cash on. And even in the absence of movie theaters and malls, I'm sure there is some equivalent temptation around that she'll discover. And in case she tries to be wise and hold on to her money, she will learn first hand the problem of inflation, and how money tends to rot away, that is lose value over time. In any case a good lesson. --- Now I'm just thinking: those three bikes may not be a bad idea after all. There may be a business idea lurking...
Ahhh yes, I remember trying to hustle for money as a 12-year-old in Germany. Very discouraging! In the US the people probably told you no straight up, by simply saying "I don't need your services, kid." or maybe even "I don't have money to pay you." Then you could just shrug it off, and keep trying with other folks. In Germany it was almost always something like: "You know I can get in trouble if I employ you before you're 14." or the cheeky "You're welcome to shovel the snow in my driveway today, but I can't pay you until you're 14."(boohhhh!) Oh yes, those damnable child labor laws! They just encouraged me to go back home to watch TV. π© Also when I was in high school in the States, where most of my peers delivered pizza or jobbed at the mall, I couldn't follow suit because I didn't have a work visa. π No wonder I turned out the way I did: a bunch of skills, but always shy of employment. Oh well, maybe it's better this way.
My best wishes with the land, and the business ideas. I'm sure you'll be amazing at it! Can't wait to read the posts.

they are wonderfully beautiful princesses. I really salute them, as Mr @justinparke said they are 12 year old daughters with HBD, This really impressed them. wish them always success and well.
Saya juga seperti yang bapak @justinparke katakan, In the past few months I have only been assisted by HBD to complete my daily needs.
She has certainly put in the effort and earned the money fair and square, albeit with lots of help from Dad in the beginning. It seems she wants to buy a motorcycle of some kind with her savings, but she still has a few hundred dollars more to go.
that's really amazing, I hope they always succeed, if they have time to visit Aceh occasionallyπ
Ah what an achievement to celebrate. Congratulations Srey-Yuu (@kidsisters) πππ!
Oh and how nice you're all going camping; I'm looking forward to the experience.
!LOL That girl πππ. I was only going to suggest to maybe paint it or use wrapping paper, so that you'll get a nice even color π . I'm all for repurposing so this one's a smart one not wasting carton. To tell you the truth, I've also repurposed boxes in the past and never got to paint the boxes π , although I was planning to.

@justinparke, I sent you an $LOLZ on behalf of @tanjakolader

The camping trip will be a fun experience even if it doesn't lead to us being able to purchase some land.
Monkey-B's right, I guess the box(es) aren't exactly beautiful, but they're functional. Perhaps in the near future I should let the girls decorate the boxes as they see fit and then cover them with tape or clearcoat so that they don't become cricket or roach food.
Letting them get their "arts and crafts" on, is a marvelous idea! I know they're creative like that.
Absolutely fantastic fella. From the desperation of a few months ago, see how far you've come fella!
Best wishes to you and your gorgeous family. Have a great weekend and I really hope the land purchase comes off successfully :-)
It is hard to imagine only several months ago it was a struggle just to go out and find vegetables for the day. Things are so much better and more predictable now.
What an amazing achievement for that age, ah I like seeing bookshelves that you make yourself from cardboard, things like cardboard are common here and we can easily find it here in Southeast Asia, of course with lots of logos and writings :D
Congratulations on the withdrawal.
I am so proud of her, but for now her blogging has come to a stop because she changed her iPad pincode without permission and immediately forgot it. Our internet is very unreliable, so each time I've tried to delete and restore it, we've got to 3GB for the iTunes update, the there is an internet problem, and then we have to start all over again.
I hope it's a valuable lesson learned, and as I've already spent $5 in credit of my own money trying to restore her iPad without success, I hope she realizes the loss in potential earnings of not blogging for several days, and will perhaps just keeping her PIN.
LOL, that is a wise dad, if my son got the money, I thought he will spend the money in evil lol. He will buy some toys, game tokens and eat some unhealthy snacks. ... and I will get angry I think ...π£π£
It seems the choice is an e-scooter or a 50cc motorcycle at the moment. We live in such a remote place that the distances are very far, and a motorbike of some kind would be very useful. Let's hope she keeps saving her money, I'd love to see her buy something big.
This is a great story of wat Hive can do in this world. So happy you found an off-ramp that works. Hopefully, one day HBD will be legal tender or better still, just be the way things are done. Congrats to you and your family.
If we are able to onboard many Cambodians like we hope, maybe HBD will become legal tender in the village. Now that we have the offramp, we could teach some kids to HIVE and buy HBD from them, or create a business of some kind that accepts HBD/HIVE.
Very dangerous experiment, keep us posted on the outcome.
!LUV the diy and repurposing of random things. We try to do that here as much as possible, instead of buying unnecessary fancy things.

Cardboard boxes are a valuable commodity in Cambodia, hard to get without paying a little money for them because recycling is a very common hustle. Most people save their cans, bottles, and cardboard and sell them to recyclers who wander around with handcarts.
We got our boxes because we buy sesame milk in bulk π.
It's a very handy skill and mentality to have. Not to mention that it reduces waste, limiting other problems in the world.
I would make bank in Cambodia then. !LOL

It is great that you are able to live off your Hive earnings. Now that I am retired I hope to build enough HP to create a passive income from curation rewards.
The curation rewards can be pretty effective once your HP is high. For me, it's still more profitable to focus on posting, but I can imagine a day where it is smarter to spend the majority of the time curating and posting only when I feel like it and not because I need to π.
I suppose that we can earn from both posting and curating. But for passive income, meaning that I can earn income for not doing anything as voting can be automated. But to earn the author reward I need to post. Since I enjoy writing, I will not stop posting. For your info, I have increased my delegation to Hive Asean Community to 200HP.

I like to share my feelings, yet it fascinates me that I can make a lot of money from here. Many many congratulations.
Yes, HIVE is a really powerful economic tool for those of us living in this part of the world.
what a very inspired story . It was much more than some cambodian people can make per month .. Good job !
It's very true, and that is the powerful impact of HIVE in a country like this.
Excellent everyone congratulations your wife sreypov is a good housewife and your children are good and talented.
Thank you, more and more I am becoming the house husband because the wife wants to post 7 days a week, and I still do 50% of the housework and am the active parent with the kids's schoolwork and all. More and more I have been seriously considering posting less on Hive to allow me more time to keep the refrigerator full of snacks and the our daughters with special meals.
My wife suffers from many health issues such as chronic fatigue and migraines, so doing any physical work is much more challenging for her. If she could learn how to manage her crypto and Hive blog by herself, I think I would gladly become the house husband π.
haha good idea But you guys can work together wonderfully. and I think your wife and you can do it. Iβ ll encourage you. Keep going. Good day, Thanks for sharing.π
My mother once sewed me dress, skirts and shirt by hand before just like that. Good job!
We used to have a small sewing machine, but we had to sell it before we left the country to get legally married. That used to make jobs like this fast and easy, but my wife is quite proficient doing it by hand too, although it takes much longer.
It's amazing how much is the small child holding the money in Indonesian money?
$150 USD converted to whatever currency you want to calculate.
That is a great news and I will planing the future for my kids.
It is easy to get them started, and modern kids learn computer things so fast.
This is such an awesome, inspirational story! ππ°π
Thank you my friend, Srey-Yuu is a legend. I know she thinks I'm hard on her to keep her pursuing her Hive journey, but it could very well provide her with financial independence for her adult years.
Very heartwarming story! Your family is beautiful @justinparke!
Thanks, I am so proud of Srey-Yuu, she's worked so hard on her Hive account.
Cool .... I hope you can also use HBD to get some other coins too :)
My daughter(s) and wife have some investments in CAKE via CubDeFi and also Wonderland too, but the bulk of our crypto life is very much in the Hive-o-sphere. Once they increase their blockchain/crypto literacy a bit, I definitely want to get them doing more stuff with their MetaMask Wallets.
Cool .... I hope it works out good in long run :)
It is all time hard in first two years to get all work somehow :)
