Today is an exciting day for me.
As a first-time mom with a child now in kindergarten, I’m truly glad to finally involve my son in his first general school activity. I put in all my effort to support him in this event.
This month, we are celebrating Nutrition Month with the theme: “United in Achieving Adequate Nutrition for Everyone.”
This kind of activity has long been part of schools in our country. I remember joining when I was in grade school, and it has always been a reminder of the importance of staying healthy and eating the right food for our bodies.
For today’s activity, assembly time was set for 7:30 AM. We arrived on time and were able to join the parade, something I thought I might miss because I was still finishing my child’s costume and preparing the food I would bring for the classroom. There was also going to be a get-together for parents and children after the program.
When we arrived, the students were already assembled on the field, wearing various fruit or vegetable themed costumes.
We waited a while before the parade began.
Some students were accompanied by their parents, while others marched on their own.
Along the way, we passed groups of students singing songs about health.
After about 15 minutes, we had to pause and gather on the field because the pathway ahead was still crowded with students who hadn’t finished parading, since we did the parade just inside the school so the space is kind of limited. While waiting for our turn to continue, we took the chance to snap some pictures.
We eventually resumed the parade and made our way toward the field near our classroom. By then, the sun was already high, and it was quite hot. Many brought umbrellas, and I regretted forgetting mine.
From there, the main program began. A teacher welcomed everyone with an introduction,
followed by an opening prayer
and the singing of our national anthem.
The kindergarten lead teacher then gave a cheerful and warm welcome to the crowd.
This was followed by the awarding ceremony for the poster-making contest held the previous week, congratulations to the creative kids who won and to their proud parents! ❤️
Next came the class presentations from each kindergarten section.
It took a while before it was my child’s class turn. Because of the heat in the middle of the field, we looked for a shaded spot and squeezed into a corner with other parents seeking shelter.
Finally, my child’s class was called.
I was excited to take photos since it was his first time to present. Unfortunately, he suddenly had a tantrum and refused to join the performance. I tried several times to encourage him, but eventually, I grew frustrated and felt that all my effort in preparing his costume had gone to waste. In the end, I decided to let it go. I just had him stand in front of his classmates for a moment so I could at least take one photo. Better luck next time 😁.
We sat back and watched his classmates until their turn ended. Afterwards, we returned to the classroom to prepare the food for our shared meal, while outside, the awarding for the best costume was still ongoing.
While the kids were playing, I chatted with another parent. Unfortunately, something unpleasant happened, which I won’t elaborate on for now,I will write about it in another post.
After that, the teacher entertained the students and we all shared the food together. However, I didn’t eat much or enjoy the meal because I was feeling anxious and wasn’t able to take pictures at that time.
What began as an exciting day turned into an anxious one due to the situation in the classroom. Still, I chose to cheer myself up, hugged my child, and reminded myself of this quote:
“It’s just a bad day, not a bad life.”
Situations are temporary and can be resolved through proper communication and humility. After all, today was my child’s activity day, and my focus should be on him.
We parents then cleaned the classroom after the meal, said our goodbyes to the teacher, and then went home ❤️
That’s all for today. Thank you for reading ❤️ I hope you have a good day and a wonderful life ❤️
Note: Photos were taken using my Realme 6 Android phone and edited in Canva for a touch of style.
Looks like a fun event. The kids must have enjoyed this celebration!
